Is there a way to snap a prop to the world center?

I have various packages with lots of props such as the Desert Motel office. Some times I want to use one or more of its props in other scenes. But when they are added, they appear way off in the distance (such as the clock would appear way off in the distance at its original wall location).

I would like to snap them to the word center so they appear right in front of my camera (where people and objects appear when first added). I would then reposition them to where I want them in my new scene. Is this possible?

BTW: I did try:

  • The “Zero selected item” but it only moves the prop to the location that they were originally installed at - not to the world center.
  • Set the X, Y, Z transitions to zero, again, that just zeros them out at their original install location - not to the world center.

Help!

Try using the Algin pane, with a null as the key node

Not really an answer to the question in the subject. However, a few ideas to throw out to perhaps solve the problem you are having another way:

    • When viewing assets in the Smart Content/Content Library you can Alt-Drag (or Apple-Drag) them into the viewport, this puts a red circle on the floor where your cursor is and when you release the mouse button the asset will be loaded at that position on the floor. This should bypas any auto non-origin positioning and ensure that the item will be within your current view.
    • Use a script to pull the object into view such as mcjComeHere posted in the Freebies section. When you run this one it will move the selected item from the scene panel into your viewport so you can then drag it into the exact position you need.

Richard & SofaCitizen - thank for replying.

The alt-drag to the Viewport worked! I forgot about that option.

    Thanks SofaCitizen
