    wolf359,

Oh, I used Affinity Photo in that last image. I've had it for some time, after I returned my Photoshop subscription, but I've only used AP sparingly. Clip Studio Paint has been my main workhorse, and, yes, it's pretty nifty tool! Except for that last image above, I've exclusively used CSP.

CSP has tons of great brushes and assets useful for illustration. I'm still learning how to use them. Take the stone texture in this image, for example. laugh

    Cheers!

I had the chance to try out some halftone and hatching shaders I discovered recently. Came out well, I'd say. laugh

A work in progress. I took an old render from early this year of Sgt. Inez (1st image) and reworked it (2nd image). In the original one, I leaned heavily on Clip Studio Paint for the toning and coloring. Since then I've learned to layer multiple Blender renders for the base shading. Like icing on a cake, CSP still comes into play to fix the shading and to add texture. In the new one, Sgt. Cleo comes into the picture, introducing some form of interaction.

It's all still a work-in-progress. I have yet to add decals to Sgt. Inez's armor, and texture it as well. As is my habit, I'll make a short comic strip, with a few panels. The challenge will be to retain the aesthetic between images.

    Cheers!

    Griffin Avid,

I can certainly understand that perspective. From what I remember, classic anime (90s and earlier) had strong color hues and contrasts. Afterwards, the anime took on a softer look, with colors that were less stark, with black tones that were crushed; there was also more blurs and glows in the environment art.

My inspiration so far has been manga rather than anima. Given that the Daz figures I use don't have the style of stylized Japanese cartoons, I rely on the kind that has more Western influence, particularly European aesthetic.

Oh, whatever works. We'll see as I get into illustrating environment backgrounds. laugh

    Cheers!

    Yes, none other. A homage.

"TinTin" and "Asterix and Obelix" should be part of the Western canon of childhood wonders.

I really like the strong hatching and engraving lines in the midtones of your most recent render. That's a very cool, moody piece.

    Ninefold,

Thanks for the kind feedback! I typically spend time wondering what worked and what I could have done better. It's always a challenge being objective about this, so any critique is much appreciated.

    Cheers!

Love the look you have developed.  I will have to check out CSP.  It came with a hardware accessory I bought but I never explored it.  Looks like a mistake by me.  Keep up the good work.

    Diomede, wolf359:

Thanks for the encouragement! Really appreciate it.

The other benefit of having CSP is access to its marketplace where graphic assets, brushes and basic 3D models are sold (viewed via CSP's 3d modeler). The company itself makes a good number of assets free. What's been of great benefit are the many brushes, not just the ones that mimic real life illustration tools, but also brushes for effects and stamping. As you might have guessed, many are made by CSP enthusiasts who undrstand the end user's needs.

    Cheers!

I love your last two pieces. The color scheme of Unsettled is stunning, and I think The Final Verdict is one of your most emotive pieces. The use of color and DOF to separate the fore-, middle and background is really compositionally potent.
