What causes the Brickyard error?

Hi,

I know how to fix the Brickyard error (quitting DS, deleting the temp folder, restarting). But what causes it in the first place?

I read on the forums here, that it is caused by starting multiple instances of DS, or by quitting DS, and then starting it again, before it is actually stopped.

However, I've just ran into it again, and this time I'm certain none of the above happened. I just finished a 3delight render (rendered fine), loaded a new scene, started a new 3delight render, and poof, there's the brickyard error. I did not quit DS, did not start a new instance, just loaded a new scene.

How can I avoid this?

Thanks! :)
