New RTX 4070ti Can’t Render

Problem: A new Gigabyte RTX 4070ti Eagle graphics card not rendering.  Fingers crossed that someone has encountered this problem and solved it. Below is my condensed troubleshooting notes.

Render Nvidia Advanced settings. Only “Cuda 0 - Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti (WDDM) “ is checked. Unchecked  “Allow CPU Fallback.”

Drivers Tried. All have FAILED.

(There are a total of 10 drivers available on Nvidia’s site.  I tried seven of them including the latest ones.)

  • Game driver  536.23  06/14/2023
  • Studio driver 535.98  05/30/2023
  • Studio driver 535.98  05/30/2023
  • Game driver 532.03  05/24
  • Game driver 531.79.   05/02
  • Game driver 531.68.  O4/18
  • Studio Driver 531.61  04/13
  • Windows 11 helped me install 5/24/2023 driver 31.0.15.2023.
  • I also went to Gigabyte’s site and installed the latest driver.
  • Huh, for some reason the Daz Studio log kept telling me that I needed to update to at least Nvidia Driver 471.41

New RTX 4070 ti

  • Appears to be working. Played Warframe at 33% GPU utilization.
  • DirectX Diagnostic Tool says no problems found.
  • Daz studio - Help- Troubleshooting-About Your Video Card. It looks okay. Pixel Buffer Size - Not enabled- Is that normal?
  • DEVICE MANAGER- Nvidia geforce rtx 4070ti properties “This device is working properly.”

Other

  • Windows 11 is up-to-date
  • Hardware Accelerated Graphics turned off / on, each time restarting computer = no effect
  • 3D Delight.  It did render an image but two parts of the image did not turn out properly. The large cloud for example was black.

I will attach a copy of the log later.

Any ideas how I can solve this problem?

Comments

  • At the bottom of the log it says it can't find a useable device. I only tried to render a bird. No environment.

    4.21.1.26 (December 22, 2022)

    • NVIDIA Iray
      • Integrated Iray 2022.1.1 (363600.1657); see this thread for more detail
        • REQUIRES:
          • NVIDIA Driver 526.98 (R525) on Windows in order to retain OpenCL/dForce compatibility
      • Added native support for all Ada Lovelace and Hopper generation GPUs

You asked "Daz studio - Help- Troubleshooting-About Your Video Card. It looks okay. Pixel Buffer Size - Not enabled- Is that normal?"

No, I don't think that is normal. My 3080 says Pixel Buffer Size 1024x1024. Try turning the Pixel Buffer on in Daz Studio Edit/Preferences (F2). Pixel Buffer is on the Preferences  Interface tab.

    Thanks PerttiA,

I am using Daz Studio 4.21.0.5 (64 bit). I will check out the links you gave me later today. Thanks.

Nvidia's manual driver search for the RTX 4070ti does not give me access to driver 526.98

I did try all these drivers though.

    • Game driver  536.23  06/14/2023
    • Studio driver 535.98  05/30/2023
    • Studio driver 535.98  05/30/2023

    • I also went to Gigabyte’s site and installed the latest driver.

** Thanks for that Barbult. I turned on the pixel buffer and set it to 1K by 1K. Still not able to render. Your comment did help me to realize that I can compare the settings and preferences of Daz Studio on my third computer to the Daz studio on my other two computers.

I think PerttiA has identified the problem already. The version of Iray shipped with Studio 4.21.0.5 does not support your card - it's too new. You'll have to get 4.21.1.26 (or later) for it to be recognised.

This was the case with the 30xx series a couple of years back. People were buying 3090s on launch and finding the exact same symptoms as you; card works fine in games/other applications but not in Studio. They had to use the beta until the general release got the relevant update.

  • I noticed that Daz Studio 4.21.1.26 was released on December 22, 2022. My current version 4.21.0.5 was released on October 12, 2022. Does anyone know why the install manager last weekend decided to give me this older version? Also, when I go into Edit-Preferences-check for updates-check now it says no updates were found. Mmm ...

Indeed ~~ that's why we always suggest users install the General Release + latest Public Build. That's the best practice. In your case, just test it with Public Build, you'll get it work...

4.21.0.5 is the General Release - the latest stable version. It will only look for updates to the General Release channel and will not tell you that a newer Public Build (beta) is available.

You can install both versions side by side by creating a second directory for installation and overriding the default on install. There's no getting around it, unfortunately - you'll either have to wait for the General Release to get the newer version of Iray (how long is a piece of string?!) or install the beta which comes with it's own issues, erm, I mean creative challenges. It's not ideal but basically that's what it boils down to.

If you need Public Build, you need to place an order of Public Build first: https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-beta..., tick Public Build ( under Releast Channel Tags) in 'Download Filters' of Install Manager, then 4.21.1.48 (latest) will be pushed to your Ready to Download.

PS: You have no way to get 4.21.1.26 now unless you ever downloaded the package before and made a buckup, or you may get the package from others..

I had issue rendering on my 4070ti as well. Daz3d used to crash when i switched viewport to nvidia iray or rendering a model. Found out it was my windows power plan which was set to balance mode. I changed it to high performance mode. Now i don't face any problems in iray viewport and rendering a model. Just putting it out there in case it helps anybody.

  • I'm having this same issue. RTX 4070 installed yesterday and I cannot render. I too see my device listed in Daz, but when I render in Iray, no device is found. This same setup worked yesterday with a GTX 980. The only change has been the RTX 4070, clean all old drivers, and install a new Nvidia driver. I have the same result in the open Beta as well as the stable release.
  • Thanks everyone for your help. In the end, I simply went to the Daz store and purchased (free) Daz Studio Beta. Then I used the Install Manager to do the rest. Just rendered my first image on my new computer.. Yeah!

  • Wait WHY did that fix the problem? I did that exact same thing and it did NOT solve my issue. Right now I'm playing the whole "your driver is too new!" And "you need an older driver!" game with tech support.

Please post your progress. I was about to pull the trigger on an i9, 4070 rig for a great price, but don't want to deal with these hoops in trying to get DS working
