Simple rendering question

Assume default render setting.

Max time is set to 7200 secs (2 hours)

Yet.

Some renders are taking 3 to 4 hours.

What overrides time and how can I stop it

There's a lock, a heart and a cogwheel above the Max time setting (where you put in the 7200 seconds).

Click on the cogwheel and choose parameter settings. 

Then check if 'use limits' is checked.

Do you use a Render Queue?

In some cases the Max time setting doesn't work when using a Render Queue.

To be fair those settings are only visible whwn you hover with the mouse.

 TIME SET 7200 SECS.

RENDERS STILL GOING OVER THREE HOURS

 

WHAT GOOD ARE THE SETTINGS WHEN THE RENDER DOES WHAT IT WANTS ANYWAY????
