How do I install contents I have downloaded outside of Daz 3D Store?

Hello everyone. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I can't figure this out.

I have downloaded the model/figure of a horse from the website of a girl (I can post the website here if needed). She was offering it for free. I have also downloaded many other animal figures from other websites, such as wolves, chickens, etc.

The thing is I can't seem to load them on Daz. I unzipped and placed them here: C:\Users\Gabriel\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library  But how do I load them? I have no idea on what to do next to load the files in the Daz3d Studio. I go there and click on Figures, but the horse doesn't show up.

I've read and watched the tutorials on the Wiki page, but they seem to be using a much older version of Daz3d studio there, with many options that don't exist anymore.

I tried going to Edit -> Preferences (F2) to load content, but I can't seem to figure out how it works.

Can anyone help me? Thanks a lot in advance. I hope this is not a dumb question :)

    Hi :)

The library you put them in should be under Daz Studio Formats>My Library on the "Content Library" Pane

these normally would be put into "C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library" though.

I've not tried putting them in the user library so I'm not sure that will work.I generally only save my custom stuff there, like scenes, materials, poses, etc,,etc

You need to enter the path to that library folder in Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager as BOTH DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats so that the library wiill appear in the Content Library pane.

You don;t say what format the figures are in, but if they are CR2 (Poser character files) they will be found under Poser Formats in the Content Library pane.

I tried that, but the horse still don't show in Daz 3d Studio :(

  • What format are the figures in?   Where are you looking?

  • They are in .duf format.

I am looking in the Figures folder. There is a Creatures or Animals paste there. I can find the horse now, but once I load it, it comes out to be very bizarre, and gives an error.

inside "C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library" you will find a number of folders with names like data, runtime, characters, and many more.

inside your animal addon download zip will be folders with the same names. Those folders need to be merged with the ones in "C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library"

Then your horse/animal will show up in the Content Library for Studio. They probably weren't made with meta-data so they won't show up in the smart content.

If you are looking in your custom categories within the content library, you also have to first tell DS to look for new content after you install it.  (I think this may not apply to either or both of the Poser or DS format views within the content library though.)  If you need to do this:

From The Content Library pane's menu icon, select "Scan known directories for files", unchecking "Only New Items".

If you could post a screenshot of both your DS and Poser mapped folders, plus a screenshot showing the corresponding top level folder with the files (such as the Runtime) in it, if you have something installed wrong one of us might be able to identify the problem by seeing it.

  • Are they Lynes animals? Some of those need 3D unwrapper

I do not know of any duf horses from elsewhere legitimate frown are a few Poser format ones.

    Yes! They are from Lynes!

I tried pasting them there, as you mentioned, but it was useless :(

    I will try that, friend.
But I don't know, this all seems overly complicated for me :( I'm almost giving up.

Can you give a link to the item?

  • Lynes are Poser format you will not see them in smart content or DAZ library but in the Poser directory under figures, you need the Poser directory added in preferences too.

Don't give up!  It may seems horribly cryptic if you've never done it before, but once you've done it a few times and know what you are doing, it's extremely easy!

Lyne doesn't actually have any standalone horses. All the files on her site are morphs and maps  for existing models.

  • Sorry for taking so long to answer, friends.
This is the file:  (Yes it's a link to youtube. There you can find a link under Descriptions for her website)

What is intriguing is that she is using Daz 3d in the video. Maybe it's not a standalone horse then?

Sorry, I am really new to all this.

Thanks a lot in advance foryour patience :)

You are very kind! Thanks a lot :)

  • I think I found the problem. A quote from a guy I found in the Facebook Group:

"You will need to have purchased the Daz Horse 2. The freebie is an add-on for the horse"

I didn't knew I'd need the horse, nor that this was an add on :(

    Is that correct?

  • Yes it is a morphing mane not the horse

  • *Lays on the floor, try not to cry, cry a lot*
