Can you rename your libraries?

As the title states, can you rename your libraries? Seem to recall someone asked and an solution given a few weeks ago. To explain what I mean, I attached to images. The poser libraries (external) all are named so I know which one I need to find a product. The same is not said for the Daz My Libraries (also external). Is there a way to rename them so it's easier to find stuff?

Rename 02.PNG

That looks like install error. (Wont work right like that)

While you CAN have multiple Libraries you DON'T want a seperate Library for every 3rd party product.

The Folder/Files inside the Content Library folder are to be installled to the Library Folder of Daz Studio.

    Instead of

    • Daz Content
    •      - My Library....
    •      - My Library...
    •      - My Library...

    Should be

    • Daz Content
    •      - My Library (or better, "My Daz Library", and use "My Library" for your own saved works)
    •           - Data
    •           - Environments
    •           - People
    •           - Scripts
    •           - Runtime

The Data and Runtime folders hold the critical source data for Studio to run and are loaded on start up. The User Facing files link back to these to load into the scene.

I manually install everything and have several external libraries as indicated by the first image. So for the library related to clothes, the only thing that goes in that library are clothes, footwear and assessories. Then when I have Daz open, I click that library and don't have to sift through poses, hair, shaders, props, morphs, characters, and so on just to find the clothes. Not to mention that library would be seriously bloated with installs.
I've seen video's where people let Daz install things and the headaches they get about where to install them and later trying to find what they installed, I've seen video's when someone is in Daz scroll through long lists in order to find what they are looking for.
I know how to save and name my libraries when creating them and then getting Daz to see them. My problem is, when I open Daz and click on the Daz Library all I see is a list of My Libraries, no title that tells me what's in them, like with the external Runtimes, as indicated by my images.

How do I get them to show up with a title instead of My Library in Daz?

I forgot to mention, I have a rather small C drive so only the program is installed there, everything else I have on my much much larger D Drive, hence the use of so many external libraries.

It's not an error, the images show my external libraries as they appear in Daz when I have it open. I know how the Daz folder stucture works, it's what I use to create my external libraries. I have no problem getting Daz to see my externals, I just need a better name for them.

You can simply rename the mapped folders from Content Directory Manager. Expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and select one in the list of libraries, and click on "Edit..." on the left. You get a standard folder selection dialog where you can actually rename folders, then select the one you want. That folder name will appear in the list in Content Directory Manager, and in the Content Library. Or, you can rename the folders ahead of time, and edit the existing configuration to point to the appropriate folder.

For example, pick the one you use for clothes, which has a drive specified and maybe a folder or two, then eventually a folder called "My Library". Rename that "My Library" to, say, "Wardrobe" or "Clothing". As long as the folder is selected in Content Directory Manager, it should all line up.

I'll give it a try and thank you.

Maybe I misunderstood as the Library selected in the image still contained all subfolders.

Yes, if its just user facing files (NOT Data or Runtime Locations) in a "Library" Folder. Right click the folder in DS and Rename.

Other options are to Categorize Items and use the Categories Database, use Smart Content, or additionally look into a content database organizer product like Content Wizard.

The name DS displays for a library is the name of the folder holding the "Runtime". Apparently your various libraries all include a "My library" folder above Runtime, so they all appear as "My library". Rename that folder and update the path in preferences, and they'll appear as something else.

Organizing isn't my problem, I have that part down to a science lol As for right clicking it to change the name, already tried that. Oh I don't use Smart Content and the Categories Database only shows things that need to be installed, nothing I have installed shows up there, so I don't bother with it. And finally I can't afford Content Wizard and chances are I won't buy it, I do have it wish listed

I was thinking the same thing Leana, when I first set this up a few years back, I ran into a problem getting Daz to see my libraries unless that second my library folder was there. MInd you that was a much older Daz. Check the image, the url bar says how my folders are done for each external, the folder called characters is just an empty folder to tell me what in that library. Hope I exlained that well lol

Leana, what you said worked, moved each external to the first library folder and deleted the second one, use the content manager to add it and delete the old one, even closed Daz and opened again to make sure everything continued to work.

    Thanks everyone for your help
