"Here Comes the Sun"......

.... No, not The Beatles!
Can someone please tell me where the hell my DAZ default lights are for iray? I have no lights that I can find that say they are related to iray and I've just been watching some of Val's tutorials on how to light a scene with iray, he uses only the 'default sun' in his outdoor scene, so where is it please 'cause I'm dammed if I can find it.
Thanks.....

It is under Render Settings/Environment/Sun & Sky Only
Render Settings > Environment > Environment Mode, "Sun-Sky Only" just uses the default sun.
There's the Sun/Sky and Environment dome, but there's also the lights under the Create menu. When you have Iray selected as the renderer, those lights are Iray lights. There are three to choose from: Distant, Point, and Spotlight, the same selection as you had in 3Delight.
OK that's nice to hear, thanks Tobor, I didn't relise those lights were usable for iray and was coming to that question next, the sun I'm refering to that Val uses in the video is one that he drags up from a folder/menu somewhere, the video clearly shows him double clicking an icon to bring a 'sun' into the scene he is using, it can also clearly be manipulated and moved around the scene and he states that it is the 'default' DAZ sun. Now the only sun I can find is the one you guys are refering to from the render menu but I can not see anyway of finding it in my scene and apart from changing it's strengths I also can not find anyway of changing it's positions or angles. (Great video by Val by the way, if anyone reading this is also struggling a little with iray, I recomend buying some of those videos, well worth the price and after only watching it a couple of times I'm finally starting to get an idea what to do)...... I just need to find 'the sun' now...haha
Maybe you're looking for the one thats under the "Render Settings" tab. At the top of that tab are 3 small tabs.Presets, Editor, and Advanced.Click presets and there is a sun dial in there.
There's the Sundial, which can be used to set the direction of the sun instead of typing values in for lonmg/lat/time.
YES! Brilliant, that's it guys, that's what he's using.... You've just made my day, thank you!
Grrrrrrr!! No guys.... I do not have a 'sun dial', I've now looked under every tab there is in Render Settings, with every possible sub-folder and I definitely do not have a sun dial.
is this where you are looking for it? ( on the right side)
And you won't, if you're still using the default settings. Go to Environment (right at the bottom of the Render Settings tab subsections) and change the Environment Mode setting from Dome And Scene to Sun-Sky Only. Now you'll see the controls for moving the sun around.
Yes, that's where I'm looking dude. I've checked under every possible tab from the menu bar and no 'sun dial' anywhere.
I can move the sun and sky around from there SK but I wanted to use the 'sun dail' in my scenes, it's much easier than having to guess where to move sliders to and what value to add.
If you could please, post the link to the video it would help to figure out what light he is using for the sun.
The one in my post is under "Render Presets" in the Content Library. The file itself can be found in "C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\Render Presets\Iray\" for the default location.
If the file isn't there ,then maybe try reinstalling the default lights and shaders bundle again using DIM.
You can get pretty much the same thing using a distant light.Just switch the viewport view from "Perspective" to "Distantlight" and you can actually look through the light to point it.
Sorry for the delay getting back to you on this, been very busy with work and stuff...
I can't post a link to the video dude, it's one that I bought in Val's tutorial series, I've watched it over again and he is definitely moving the sunlight around using this 'sundial' thing, I've checked and re-checked and my Studio does not have this sundial thing in it anywhere. I'll most likely mess around with your idea about using a distant light and see where that gets me, I thought I was finally getting somewhere with this Iray but now getting the lighting to work for anything more than basic is becoming a real pain....
Thanks guys!
Dreamlight's video is using an older version of DAZ STudio, namely the 4.8 Beta version. A lot has changed since that version, and that includes the location of the Sun Dial.
Please try this: Make sure that this file is properly installed. If in doubt, deinstall and reinstall it.
Once you did that, go to the Render Presets --> Iray and type in "Sun Dial". It should show up like this:
And there's the option to go through the Product Library:
YES! Excellent, that worked Lee, I've now got the sundial, thanks very much dude.
