    Whatever happened to Vue?

The E-on site is back, and Vue is available again, but new licenses are subscription only - so I'm sticking with my 'old' 2015 license.

3DS do now have an Indie subscription - £275 p/a (or us$ equivalent), down from the full £1782 p/a sub. Full product, but you must make less than $100k https://area.autodesk.com/3ds-max-indie/

You need to unsubscribe directly to avoid the full cost of 2000$£€ on day 366. Billed annually upfront, deal is only valid for 1 year. Guess the free Blender 2.80 scared Autodesk...

Deal for Max or Maya, only in a few countries. I would stick with Carrara, Blender and Houdini for non-commercial work.

The free Daz importer for the free new Blender 2.80 has been updated to 1.4: http://diffeomorphic.blogspot.com/p/daz-importer-version-14.html?m=1

We shall see. 3DS for one year only is not a lot of good, and I'm pretty sure 99% of the people that go for the Indie sub would not continue with the 2 grand one. Which makes it a very cynical ploy on the part of Autodesk. Personally, I'm tied to Modo until next July, so I'll be free to try it about the time they stop doing it. Par for the course, lol

I certainly don't want to throw all my chickens into that basket if they're gonna be killed off after a year!

UE4 is still free and Epic give away heaps of free assets every month

this is a Carrara render of one of the Paragon figures Gideon

I found an easy way to export locked in textures too, I made a UV grid of flat mapped squares each a full UV square and drag the materials onto each and exporting the obj you get the option to export textures and it works.

Most stuff not locked in you still need to do it a fiddly way so useful for anything but the Paragon ones are locked and all the tutorials on YouTube involve complicated baking on primitives etc, this is so simple.

The EULA stops you using them in other game engines but I asked on the forum renders in other software OK

people do it in Max, Maya, Blender etc so we can Carrara!

They still work much better in Unreal of course but you can tweak, modify stuff in Carrara and re-export, Carrara and Unreal play quite well together

does it export a bvh file?

how do you use it with carrara?

    thanks.

could use a help tool with 4 legged 2 winged critters smiley

  • Haven't had the time to try it yet, but from the FAQ:

Does Cascadeur support importing and exporting animations for third-party software?

Yes, you can import and export both animations and stand-alone models in widely popular FBX and Collada formats.

There is also an option to export animations into video files.

I still wish there was a way to make this into a Carrara plugin.  Stunning stuff.
