What to put on an SSD drive?
I'm trying to breath life into an old mac pro 3,1 and hope to speed up daz iray rendering. Part of this is an SSD drive. What is the best stuff to put on that drive? The OS and Applications? Or all the daz content? Or both (if it would fit)? What would speed up rendering the most?

OS...and if big enough, apps.
But once the content is loaded/render starts you could be using tape drive for all the renderer cares. RAM is where all the good stuff happens. If you run out of it, the render will crash or slow to less than a crawl. And it won't matter if the swap is on an SSD or a platter drive, it's still slower than a half frozen snail, stuck in a pool of molasses, during a blizzard.
Just os for me. Apps elsewhere. Temp data, user roaming files and stuff eat up the SSD as it is. And I turned off hibernate and other features to keep the drive open.
some apps put large amounts of data on c drive even if not installed there
ssd has no impact on render.
Thanks. Exactly the info I was looking for. And MJC, are you talking about Ram on the machine or Ram on the GPU?
For Iray, both...but for 3Delight, system RAM.
