Need help on pores render, I never got any pore

functionfunction Posts: 283

I realized that I never ever got an iray render with pores, which means my work is not realistic, sad. I tried many figures, HD figures, SubD4, Skin detail resources, PBR Skin, add Base Bump map and Normal map, etc., as one example shown below, the Victoria 8 HD never shows her pores, like some advertisement pictures in the store.

What should I do? Please help.

That's very soft lighting, look at the faintness of the shadows. As a result fine detail really isn't going to show - if you want pores you need a sharper, more directional light.

    Finally got it.

It needs a high value (I used 4) for Base Bump, and 1 for Normal Map, plus HD face map for the Base Color.

The key for pores is high value Base Bump.

Like someone else said, darker or harder lighting. Try better lighting, different hdri's can create much different looks. Crank up the bump or normals past the standard 1 or 2. But really realism isn't about pure skin detail, it's the whole picture. Plus the overall skin texture itself is the most important, in my opion, a really good skin texture with the right surface settings doesn't need much pores for realism. Standard Daz models aren't actually very good, I'm kinda shocked they still have never adapted a better surface settings system. Plus plus, realism isn't just about a ton of detail, I mean go look at people's socially media accounts, these people do the anti-detail thing. They blur, light blur, apply filters and AI nonsense to remove detail and make everything look smooth, flawless, and "pretty."  I mean, I even apply smoothing modifiers to my characters. But again, the stock Daz skin setup isn't really that great. In the long run that's what will kill the realism the most.
