    Looks like it's this suit https://www.daz3d.com/marvelous-bodysuit-for-genesis-8-males with custom texture, kitbashed with boots from another outfit.

    did they mask G8.1 in Zbrush

    extrude maybe Zremesh

    then apply Micromesh for that?

    how does a stretch knit Chain Mail bodysuit even work

    Probably not very well.  If you knit with steel cable then there's a chance it would work with some blades if the wire were heavy enough. As it is, I'd expect tstrands to fatigue & impale the user with more success than it'd have deflecting a blade. Also, the weight penalty would make a traditional chain mail lighter. Especially if it was restricted to a posing pouch/codpiece or bikini to cover the really vital areas in a battle.
