Does buying a gift card through PayPal count or just direct purchases?

we have asked. I would have expected it to count - it's paying money to Daz - but a lot of offers come into effect when spending a GC rather than when buying it so the code may not be set up that way

Many times when I've used Paypal to pay for Daz items, Paypal puts a security hold on the items. It takes days to get it sorted out. I usually have to open a ticket with customer service to get the sale price. One time they told me Daz was under investigation by the FBI. I use Paypal for a number of things but I don't like to use it with Daz.

I've had that. The only work-around is to buy a gift card, add it to your account, then pay for the items with store credit.

I've always used PayPal here and never had any issues. I gladly pay with PayPal if this helps DAZ and the community.

If the FBI was investigating Daz (for what?) then a PayPal support agent would hardly tell a random person who had confirmed they were doing business with the company, in the highly unlikely event that the support agent actually knew about the investigation. We can be pretty confident that this is a misreading of soemthing that was said, or less plausibly a support agent playing games with a customer.

The Fancy Barber Institute tends to investigate any company that sells hair... real or virtual.

This occured several years back, and I assure you that is what I was told by a rep at Paypal when I called them to inquire as to what was going on. I thought it strange also. I believe I also mentioned it to one of your reps at time when I replaced the order.  I buy stuff from Daz all the time with a credit card and have no issues. The only time I have had problems is when I use Paypal with Daz. Not everytime but at least three other times. I use Paypal at the other Render sites all the time and have no issues so far purchasing from them.

Three or four occasions sounds about right, when a name of a product had some slangy or political connotation and PayPal took it literally - mostly the products had to be renamed. But these all happened, as far as I recall, on initial product release and were sorted out soon after.

Yes I believe that's what happened to me the last time. I had purchased a bunch of items on a big sale and they didn't like the names of some of the products. It took them days to release the hold and then the order was cancelled. I didn't replace that order as it would have been too big a hastle to refigure it all.

I'd imagine it would be more to do with products with "Teen Boys" or "Young Teen" or "sexy" in their names. That would be the sort of thing setting off their alarm bells. PayPal considers the specifics of their Acceptable Use Policy as "proprietary information" but one could make a good guess at what key-words would cause concern. Type them into Google and see what pops up, on second thoughts, you better notsurprise .

Those aren't the only type of keywords the algorithms look for; it's any that might indicate a serious crime is taking place. One product involved was a set of props released during one of Daz's Ancient Egypt phases, named something like Egyptian Treasures. PayPal's algorithms assumed Daz & their customers might be trafficking in real Egyptian antiquities! Another was a hair originally released as Havana Hair and the USA still has a total trade embargo against Cuba, so the algorithms decided this might violate said embargo. Every PayPal purchase of both got blocked, from what I recall.

I didn't buy either of the items, but I remember reading posts from many people who did.

Below was taken from an email from the last time they stopped one of my orders. There were several back and forth emails. I was really angry with them because as I said this wasn't the first time they had done it. First is my reply back to them. Then a rediculous request asking me to account for a product name This was in December of '21 I've altered the case numbers and took out personal information:

This is really unbelievable. Daz3D is a customer of yours that offers CG figures and items for 3D art. Daz has been in business for decades and has many thousands of users. They have been a customer of yours for many years as well. I was trying to purchase multiple items of which  "Sweet Apartment" was one. Here is the link: https://www.daz3d.com/sweet-apartment. How many hours does it take to get a transaction resolved? Security issue? They are your customer for quite a long time. It's Paypal and their spirious policies that should be investigated. Please get this matter resolved.

    Sincerely

    Larry

We believe you, no need to post email details.

Why does PayPal even need to know that?  Why isn't Daz anonymitizing their product titles (e.g.Digital Product #12345) before they send it to PayPal?  It's a digital good, not contraband or anything naughty.

Yes, Sweet Apartment was another problem product - one might guess at the posible problem, but I don't think it was ever confirmed.

we have asked. I would have expected it to count - it's paying money to Daz - but a lot of offers come into effect when spending a GC rather than when buying it so the code may not be set up that way

Still wondering: Any information on this ?  I'm trying to decide if I should purchase a gift card with PayPal while the promo is still running. Since the10% rebates will be posted tomorrow, I suspect the promo will end today.

I like the details. It proves we're dealing with real events and shows the unvarnished truth about how Paypal works against its own customers.

They said that you would get the 10% back if purchasing a GC with Paypal. But, as stipulations say if you use the code at the same time it won't work, so the GC would need to be an order on its own, or with other products that don't have that stipulation.

Thanks, Frank. I'm not sure what stipulations you are refering to. I used the coupon code yesterday and purchased the items with PayPal (instead of store credit) in order to get the store credit. Does it mean that I won't be getting any store credit for the order of individual items I already purchased with the coupon?

It would seem HSBC has bought the UK branch.

HSBC has bought up the UK arm of the collapsed American Silicon Valley Bank for just one pound - under a deal brokered by the government aimed at protecting UK investors and tech startups from incurring huge losses.
