Fun experience in Daz Studio

Just wanted to share a really fun experience I've had recently in Daz Studio.

I'm helping a buddy of mine who's an awesome singer/songwriter, guitar playing bassist of a vocal harmonizer, by providing some drums. A bit back I decided to help him make videos for the first few songs he's having professionally mastered.

I kind of envisioned going with a simple, stylized, single color/ silhouette style so that he wouldn't have to put tons of time, effort or money into getting quality, interesting, real footage. I just finished the second video and learned a ton of new stuff in After Effects (I'm pretty much a beginner) and started to use Daz assets in a slightly different way than I would have previously...

Everything I rendered from DS is very simplistic, mainly just animated camera movement past/through props (and just a bit of Puppeteered Daz Crow/Raven headbanging), all with the intention of having it mainly be silhouettes and line drawing style textures to overlay onto stylized real footage of my buddy playing and singing.

With a mix of either mapless black textures or textures intended to be changed into line drawings, I was free to use Textured Shaded mode as my final rendered output and what a dream. Of course like I said, I didn't go to the extent of animating the movement of rigged props and creating that kind of "animation", but just having the freedom to re-render many different 300-1200 frame shots up to many times each in order to work out bugs, change directions, etc... was so comparatively fun, it's worth changing things up stylistically if you see an opportunity for a project, just to experience the fun of completely inconsequential render times.

Take a look at the video if your cool with hearing a heavy rock kind of song and/or would get a kick out of seeing some recognizable Daz Assets used in a slightly unusual way. Pretty much everything you see that isn't real footage, originated in one way or another in Daz Studio. Nothing technically amazing, just a good experience I thought I'd share.

Oh, it may be necessary to check the quality setting, it should be 1080, 60 fps, but seems to default to 20th century resolution for me for some reason.

Nice work.  A while ago I needed a lot of "Talking head" style characters, but texture shaded was good enough quality-wise, so I was able to render them fairly quickly.

I like what you've done here - just goes to show that photorealistic animations aren't always necessary to get good results.

Congratulations :) It's very cool indeed and we don't even notice you were using DAZ Studio :) I usually don't like most of videos done with DAZ Studio because people don't play with lights, the poses are too rigid and the renders looks too amateurish :( Yours are very artistic and I love that :)

    Wow!

Liked the music very much; the lyrics not exactly my kind, but I appreciated your friend's clear pronounciation (not being english native speaker, I often have some difficulties in understanding spoken language).

I also liked your work on animations; just a little suggestion: due to some effects in animationm it may be appropriate to add a trigger warning at the beginning of the video for epilecthic-related phenomaena. Does somebody other think so?

Thank you guys so much for the positive feedback! I'm always my own worst critic and always ask for criticism, but it's also very helpful to have peers help me feel I'm going in a good direction. Can't wait to work on the next one with a lot of new techniques already under my belt! Also, thanks Ruthven for mentioning the Photosensitive Warning that probably IS very necessary! I feel awful that the thought never crossed my mind. Looking into it, for sure!
