Victoria

So I see a huge amount of extra product items for the Victoria model.  If I was interested in purchasing Victoria what would be my best choice (there are more than several, although most of the things I see are for the V4?) Cost is also a factor since I am very very new to this I don't feel able to spend hundreds of dollars on things just yet.  Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

  • Or, can I use morphs and skins from  V4 on any of the Genesis characters?  I just read something about making sure that the Genesis female has a UV mapping thing set before trying to apply a morph of skin for V4?  Sorry for the silly questions but I literally loaded this 3 days ago and have zero background in 3d.  Trying to learn as quickly as I can but its a bit overwhelming.  I am hoping that at least some of the stuff that seems way over my head now in the forums will still sink in and be retained as I learn even if I don't undrersand a lot of it just yet.  Thank God for forums and You Tube tutorials!

  • You can use the skins from V4 on the first genesis. Not the morphs. Technically there are ways to get the morphs...but thats beyond new user type stuff. Fairly complicated.

If I were you, pick a generation and only use that for a bit. Like Genesis. Learn how to apply hair and clothes and skin for genesis with Genesis 1 or maybe Genesis 2. After you get some practice doing that learn about how to Use older stuff on newer figures and things like that.

The original genesis is not that old, and still pretty awesome. Its pretty cheap to get stuff for. Maybe that is a great starting point. I personally would not start with V4 anymore.

  • Okay great!  I have found several sites that have great clothing and things for Genenis one and two.  So I will stick to that for a bit as I learn my way around.  Thank you!  I am really just not comfortable spending much til I know at least a bit more of what I am doing.  One more question if you don't mind.  How does one apply textures that are in jpg or png format?  I have seen a lot of background textures and some eye textures that would be most useful but I have no idea how one uses that for a 3d model.  Still searching the forums and videos, in an effort to only ask questions i can't find an answer to lol.  I am sure its out there somewhere.

typically textures for Daz/Poser characters come with a preset. That preset applys the textures to all the right areas. You can manually do this using the surfaces tab in Daz Studio. The surfaces tab shows all the surfaces or different areas you can apply textures to the model.

However, intitially I would suggest using material presets that do this for you. For one the figures have a lot of different zones. Secondly there is this concept of UV mapping. The textures you apply need to be designed for the UV map that area needs. UV maps are how programs know where that 2D picture fits on that 3D object. For example V4 has a different UV map than Genesis 3. A texture for V4 won't work on Genesis 3 properly.

  • Okay thank you. will mark the textures as favorites and wait to learn a bit more.   Darn shame I have a day job and can't just spend the time learning new stuff lol.

  • Thank you so much for the links!  You are right having a day jobis not a bad thing lol.  and I am very fortunate that I really like my day job.  I will go check out the links and watch the videos.  I know I am

impatient, one of my characters flaws is that I want to be able to do it all RIGHT NOW lol.  My sensible side knows this in not possible but the impatient sides gets a bit frustrated.

  • My pleasure! Speaking of videos, I forgot those basic tutorials for the most common features in DAZ Studio: https://www.daz3d.com/help/help-daz-3d-video-tutorials/

What goes beyond that, don´t hesitate to ask in the forum. There are always helpful people around the New Users Section to help you out.

  • Thanks!
