Can't change basic render settings

Hi. Many apologies if this is a really stupid settings issue but I can't seem to figure it out.
I've just gone through the basic tutorial for Daz 4.8 and things seemed fine 'til the lighting and rendering process. I don't have an NVIDIA graphics card (I'm on a laptop with a 2GB AMD card, nothing special) but I followed the instructions which pointed me to the Iray setting. It seemed to begin to render okay without me changing anything but I wanted to render a much smaller image to try and get a result as quickly as possible - just to try it out. Then I ran into trouble. I can't seem to change the dimensions - whether locked or unlocked they just spring back to the number they started on. The 'General' text on the Editor tab is greyed out (though the subtabs aren't), so maybe it's not available? Switching to another engine achieves nothing except that it puts up a warning for Basic OpenGL: "Warning: Obscuring the viewport during an OpenGL render may corrupt the final image" and I have NO idea what that means - switching back to the Aux Viewport changes nothing and when I click 'save' in the render window on that it seems to do nothing at all. What on earth do I have ticked that's preventing me from changing settings? I can't find ANY videos or support for 4.8 to help me here, so I'm throwing myself at your mercy: what am I missing?
Thanks in advance, and sorry if I'm being super dense.

You most probably have it set to 'Active Viewport'
Change that to Custom, and you can change to any size you like.
