Gen8 character convert to gen9

I have a Gen8 character that I have to my liking, and wondering what would be necessary to update the character and look and shape and clothing to Gen9. How painful will it be?  Any tricks to make easier?  Is it worth the effort and time if I am happy with the look of the gen8?  It's just that I eventually might want to swap in some gen9 clothing.

This official Daz video really helped me convert a couple gen 8 figures to gen 9: It wasn't painful but it took a few steps and if you aren't carefully making sure you are following each step you might have to start back over to get it to work. In case you check it out but want it written the first pinned reply  by Safetyman99 wrote it all out. Good luck!

  • Hi agate888. I havent seen any character conversin software or posts yet about G8 o G9 I'm not sure if that will work as I understand the G9 has more dense olygons and it is geared to be both male and female. However if oure hap with our character and only interested in wardrobe there is a G8 to G9 clone product available to alow ou to do that by MMX caled G9 clones for all. I have it and it works quite well. Hope this helps.

    My steps:

    Load G9 dev load

change resolution of the G9 dev load to Base resolution

    Unselect the G9 dev load

    Load G8 dev load

    Select the G9 dev load

click Hamburger icon of Parameter pane

    click Show hidden properties

    choose Hidden

    choose Clones

set clone of the G9 dev load as Genesis 8 male

set the Thigh bends Side-side of the G9 dev load (around 6 and -6 degrees respectively) to match the G8 dev load

    Hide the G8 dev load

    Select the G9 dev load

    Export it to obj

    Hide the G9 dev load

    Show the G8 dev load

    Import the G9 obj

    click Hamburger icon

    click Assets

    click Transfer utility

set From source the G8 dev load

set Target source the G9 obj

    Uncheck parent to source figure

    Hide the G8 dev load

then select the G8 dev load (thru Scene tab)

Dial in G8 head / body morph to be transferred

    Select the G9 obj

Export it to obj (as morph obj)

    Delete the G9 obj

    Del the G9 dev load

    Load G9 default

use Morph loader to import the G9 morph obj

    set Reverse deformation yes

    Dial in the transferred morph

    start Joint editor

    Right click work space

click Adjust rigging to shape (must adjust orientation)

Right click the transferred morph in parameter pane

    click Edit mode

    then ERC freeze

    set transferred morph to 0

Save the transferred morph as morph asset

Don't ask me why the steps are like these, I just know these steps work for me. I come up with these steps after summarizing and testing the tutorials and videos posted in DAZ Forum.
