MARCH MADNESS begins - early

Well, it appears MM has started. What will this round bring to us? I'm almost afraid to venture forth into that madness.

Everything for a penny? That would be pretty mad :)

  • well we get a freebie to choose from on day 1 and it is a pretty large choice including a lot of g8 stuff it's way down at the bottom of the sales page

  • oh but the sorting by new arrivals doesn't work it's kinda all over the place with with even v4 being showing as newer products compred to some g8 so you may have to scroll fair bit to cherry pick but lot of good stuff from all generations plus otherstuff and standalone figs

out of all the categories and a huge PA selection, there is only 1 item from my wishlist. Its at 40% off - A pass. The 3.99 category has a few items I might pick up. Free is always great.
I was able to get the G9 bundles to nearly 70% off, which isn't bad, but I've already spent my DAZ alottment for the month. I always thought MM was in March.

Just sort by price highest to lowest, and then set it back to new arrivals and it'll go in order of release. This happens all the time on the sales page.

Yeah, 'Popular' is the default sorting order it seems... Who cares about popular?...

Blame the groundhogs for six more weeks of sales.

  • Thank you for the early March Freebie!

  • Thank you for the free item, DAZ.  I got a Genesis 8 dress I'd been wanting for a while. heart

The early beginning is weird, but the gift is very nice. Also, there's quite a few pretty things in the bonus grab bag, like Kayo 8.

There were thousands of items offered from V4, I think, on up to G8 with something from every generation in between and retail prices ranging from $20 on down. There were a lot of Daz+ items as well. Frankly, such an assortment would be welcome as a low-price grab bag. If the price were right, there were a pile of items I'd have been happy to buy.

No MM freebie today, and I got a good one yesterday, just the DAZ+ weekly freebie.

...hmm, now we need two or more themed relases to unlock extra discounts and deals.. Card is content to remain safe and snug in the wallet.

Last year it was being called March Meh-ness. After I complete my current tasks I will probably put my Daz money into Midjourney and see where that takes me.

Same old, same old.  DAZ's marketing people put all their time into convoluted gimmicks but that can't hide the fact that the actual product mix itself is becoming increasingly repetitive while the prices are soaring.

...I rarely purchase character content unless it offers something unique as I usually just "dial spin" (yeah, old Poser term, "slider spin" makes no sense) characters on my own.  So many seem to look so much alike to me, same sort of face same basic physique (for females, usually all very "well endowed", even ones purported to be teens).

While I have slowly been building a G8 content library (thanks to it often being discounted) I avoided repurchasing the "standard" stable of base figures as I rarely if ever use a character or figure "as is" straight out of the box. I haven't used Vicky, Aiko, Stephanie, or Mike much at all (even in mixes with other character shapes) since the introduction of Genesis (the only reason I have Vicky 8 was because she was offered for free as a loyalty bonus).

I dial spin everything as well, as I want all my characters to be unique to my work.  That said, I do have a large library of commercial figures, as it gives one a wide selection of skins to use, and it can be amazing how different the same set of morphs look with different skin textures applied, even when the textures look fairly similar at first glance.  Beyond that, I find I tend to get more interesting results more quickly when I start with a premade character, as starting with someone else's decisions as a base forces one to think outside of your usual automatic design choices.  I also manually edit and mix elements from different skins in Photoshop when the exact details aren't exactly what I want, such as the eyebrows being too dark for the natural hair color and the vendor not having bothered to provide a browless version.

This. I just can't afford this hobby anymore ;). At least not now. Prices too high and things that used to be sold together are being broken up into separate products. No thanks ;). I think it'll sit it out this year.

...that's what I usually do.  I start with a base character that would work the best for the final character.  Teen/pre teen characters are a bit problematic particularly female ones due to the standard bust size of most Daz females.  3DU's young characters are a bit stylised and in some cases a little "toonish".

  • Here's hoping that MM has a minimal amount of "save XXX, but only if you buy this new Gen9 thing" sales.

  • I found some outfits and expressions for my genesis 8 ladies in the Mad Artist category and used the MADNESS-DEAL coupon to bring the price down. Most of my hobby budget went to the President's Day sale.

If MM continues as it has, I'll end up with a few more things to my liking and my bank balance will be ok.

How about "slider surf"?  Or "slider shuffle".  Alliteration makes everything better.
