Best way to Splice and Combine Assets? (Combining shoes and hair)
Hello!
I have two situations where I want to take item 1 and combine it in some form with item 2 and 'merge' them to create a 'new' item I can reuse. Example one- I have a pretty shoe with massive heels (SHOE A) and SHOE B has a low heel that I want to use with SHOE A. I've been putting both shoes on my character and then messing with the material opacity levels to make it look like SHOE A has the heel of SHOE B. (Sometimes this works and sometimes there are gaps or overlaps) Is there a way in Daz (or another program I can export to and then reimport) to combine them and create SHOE C that correctly merges SHOE A with SHOE B's heel? Or if I wanted to take the ponytail from one hair and bangs from another to combine them into a new hair?
Thanks in advance~!

In principle a modelling apllication (e.g. Hexagon or Blender) could do the job, but mixing different heel heights might be tricky - and you would have to redo the rigging for the new item.
hair you might be able to somewhat mix and match by hiding parts....and using a hair shader set to match things up https://www.daz3d.com/colorwerks-hair-shaders-for-iray
Yeah, that's the method I've pretty much been using but hoping someone has another method especially when combing more than 2 the same way. For instance I have 1 hair for the front, another for the middle part, another for the braid, and a final for the hair under the braid.I only have one autofitted to the head the others are grouped seperately but parented all with the same shader. Would be nice if I could combine all the parts I'm using into one instead of saving the hair as a subscene and merging it into my scene every time I want to use it.
Ahh didn't think about rigging since I always adjust using the high heel slider. Assuming I went with Blender do you know offhand a good place to start-like what might be good search keywords or even better tutorials you could point me in the direction of? The things I've found seemed to be more about editing ONE item and bringing it back without errors...
Thanks for the help/ideas so far!
If in blender I would seperate the mesh, so you have the shoe you want without the heel and the heel you want without the rest of the shoe.
Then it would be best to match verteces, so the verteces can be merged 1 to 1. For that I would probably add some loop cuts.
You should probably be able to the UV's so you can use the textures from the original, you just need to make sure that the heel is its own material zone. You will not be able to reuse the materials, only the textures.
And sorry, don't know any tutorials dealing with that.
No sorrys needed- that's great info and definitely enough to point me in the right direction- thank you!
