Skin Texture Suggestions

Can anyone recommend good skin textures for G8M? I know alot of people swear by Bluejaunte and/or iSourceTextures for female skins, and I use a few of iSourceTextures skins myself. But I want to be able to render male characters alongside my females, and am looking for comparable skins. I know iSourceTextures has a couple male characters, but I'm wondering if there are any others?

    I like Edward 8 for a normalish guy render.  but it really boils down to what you like.

     

    If you have any G8M characters throw a skin on your figure and try um.  I do it all the time.  try this one, nope.  try this one, nope. try this one, ahhh that looks okay and I'm off to the races.

    I'm really looking for skins that look good in a render alongside ones by Bluejaunte and/or iSourceTextures. Most look to plasticy or fake next to theirs because of the lack of detail (or becuase of how highly detailed theirs are, with blemishes and imperfections not found in alot of other skins).

    check out Phoenix1966, especially over at rendo, but there are some here too that are good.

    Are you strictly interested in G8 or will you do 8.1 characters as well?

    Cool. I have some suggestions for you. I'm not at my Daz computer right now but I'll pull them up when I get home and edit this post with some suggestions. I have some male characters I really like for their skins and I think they fit well with what you are looking for (interesting details).

    Matteo HD (Daz Originals, RedzStudio) - His shaping is a little less favorite, but the skin is really good.

    Taurus HD (Daz Originals, Emrys, Morris)

    Azeem HD (Daz Originals, Kooki99)

    Pablo 8.1 (Daz Originals)

    Kyrone HD (Daz Originals, Kooki 99)

    Rocco HD (Daz Originals, Emrys, Morris)

    Dannie HD (Daz Originals, Emrys)

    G8:

    Holt 8 (Daz Originals) AND Eli HD for Holt 8 (Daz Originals, Emrys, Morris)

    Vernon HD (Mousso) - can be a little shiny in the light but has good imperfections

    So, you can probably tell that I have some favorite creators... but yeah, these are skins I use a lot for the same reasons you were asking for. They just hold up better under close examination for me.

    If you like and use the bluejaunte girls, you can use the UV Swap product that allows males and females to use each other's skins.

    I took it further and "baked" the important dual lobe specular maps to match the G8 male. This gave me new textures, which allowed me to mix and match these textures with any G8 male textures. With this you get two perks. Now your guys can have skin that mimics the bluejaunte girls, and if you use the girls, they would look like they belong in the same scene together. Sometimes you use certain characters, and they clearly clash with the style of another. Having all the characters using bluejaunte spec maps lets them mesh together.

    I think it is worth doing.

    I managed to find a couple old pics I posted in the forums of my "bluejaunte Nix". I just took the settings of a bluejaunte girl and swapped in Nix's color and normal maps.

    I'll add these were thrown together quickly back in 2020 just to show a result. You can certainly fine tune it, and use any male texture you want. I forgot Nix doesn't have a ton of body hair, I'd use a mesh hair anyway. The key components are the spec maps in the dual lobe section. You want those maps! They are the secret sauce to his girls, they can make almost any skin texture pop. Most of his girls have a similar one. I'd take one of the last G8 characters he did, before he went to 8.1, unless you are looking for 8.1.

    I like the male characters from Emrys. The skin uses SSS the way I like it and by that I mean that it doesn't look like plastic the way some of the DAZ Originals do.
