Why won't DIM let me configure more than six parallel download connections?

edited February 2023 in The Commons

I have good fibre Internet which will soon, allegedly, get twice as good(1), but I can't get more than about 30-50Mbps per connection because I'm in France and DAZ3D is in Utah (a long way, even for Internet traffic).  Because DIM won't let me configure more than six parallel connections, it can't even fill more than a third of my (current) maximum available bandwidth.

So : why won't DIM let me configure more than six parallel connections?

(1) It's sort of my fault, because I have a dedicated hardware firewall in the middle of my network which has 1Gbps Ethernet, while all the rest, including my Fibre, is rated for at least 2Gbps down.  My employer provides the firewall for free, and I will theoretically soon have a new one because one of the R&D managers wants my old one for the lab.  The new one has 2.5Gbps Ethernet interfaces ...

EDIT: and before y'all say it, yeah, I know, First World Problems...

  • To be honest, I would be surprised if your connection is not beyond the wildest dreams of the programmers, and they didn't imagine anyone would find that 'only six connections' was a severe limitation. DIM has been around a few years and maybe has been overtaken by what is available to you. Regards, Richard.

Ah ha! So you're the one hogging the server, causing it to "404" for so many of us.angrydevil

I suspect that the potential impact on the download servers (which are not connected to the forum servers, to be clear) may well be a factor.

That's why I get better download speeds at 6AM my time (9PM Daz time), because you are still asleep cheeky

Complaining here won't do any good.  Put in a feature request ticket.
