What happened to the split-up outfits?

HeraHera Posts: 1,958

I've noticed that with the appearence of G9, the split-up outfits are now gone and everything is sold together again.

It hit me as there has been quite a few products recently where I wanted only one or two pieces, not the whole kit. latest being Neo Future Outfit, where I'm interested in the helmet, while the dress and especially the shoes are of none interest whatsoever. Same goes for the summer set where I only really wanted the pants.

Are those splits gone permanently now or might we see them again? And does anyone else miss them? Your thoughts?

I noticed this also, but I don't miss them. I would rather just have the whole outfit

  • Couldn't be happier about this.

I liked the split items, and I don't see how it would hurt folks who didn't like them. You could still buy the entire garment if you wanted to.

Was giving too many cheap new items options to use as buy ins :P

And have a huge mess in Daz Central and Smart Content as every single piece was counted as separate item. Same for the store, for that matter, scrolling past countless "piece of outfit" items was somewhat annoying.

Makes me wonder what the sales results were for full outfit vs. pieces, but I doubt Daz will share any ratios/percentages.

  • I bought a ton of stuff that was separated that I wouldn't have bought otherwise as one whole piece. I've missed it as well.

I see both sides of this subject - I like being able to buy the one part of an outfit that was of interest to me and pay just for that, but also, having just reinstalled every Daz product I own on a new computer, can clearly see the litter aspect. I hadn't actually noticed the lack of split outfits until I saw this comment, but now I do realize that it seems to have disappeared suddenly.

I have to weigh in on the side of liking the convenience of getting just one part. I'm working on a story for a time/place for which I have to kitbash everything, so it's not uncommon that I only needed one piece of something.

yes. Plus, for anyone who catalogues their assets, that was a royal pain. Too much additional work and energy just  to dowload and track parts of what should be a single asset. In my mind it cheapened the look of the asset. It certainly did not enhance it. I hope it's a thing of the past.

Yeah I can imagine it just being a mess for asset management at the store, and for consumers.

Just bought a clothing bundle that had all the outfits divided into separate parts with separate downloads... Pain in the you know where...

The idea wasn't bad, but the execution could not have been worse.

And what happens when you buy all the portions and there is a fast blink sale you can't resist? What happens if you don't know each and every asset you own? If Daz can allow us to buy what we don't own at dicounted prices why can't they know what we own and reflect such. I buy bundles but they make me cringe.

Edit: But I do respect and love the work of the PA known for doing this and do purchase those bundles. The items are showcased beautifully and the PA put tons of extra work into splitting them. My proplem with the outfits split is that is you if you only manually download the 'entire outfit zip' you do not get a usable file. For example the main file for the entire outfit is typically 2MB. Yet, the crown is 189MB, the skirt is 87.1MB, heels 34.5MB, arm wraps 68.9MB,  torso armor 86.1MB. The problem is you have to download 6 or more zip files etc to get the entire outfit purchased.

In my limited experience, buying 2 pieces only saved you pennies. Buying 3 was usually more expensive than the whole.

It's fine to want to just buy the top, or the bottom or whatever break-out parts there are to an outfit...what bothers me is when you buy the whole thing and now you've got 4 separate items in your smart library for example (say for the top, the bottom, the underwear, and the whole outfit). Makes finding what you want a little difficult.  Would be nice to group these into outfit bundles, and I could pick...or give each one a different icon so I know what I'm looking for.

Unless you buy this https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-romantic-gentleman-outfit-for-genesis-8-and-81-males which for some reason is $1.00 more than the individual items.

The extra items in Smart Content were my only problem with this.  If Daz could some how ship outfits like outfits for people who bought the whole thing, I'd like to see separates come back.

Smart Content is kind of a mess generally right now, what with Lost & Found overflowing with items.  It's a feature I use a lot, and hope that it will get some attention.

  • I found it usefull where I had to buy a new item for a deal and let's face it, most pants and boots are interchangeable so one only needs more tops

That is a matter of getting the metadata corrected, Smart Content and Categories are just reporting what that says.

Probably because the Bundle includes some material presets for the whole outfit and a couple of partial outfit loads, to supplement the individual ones.
