I filed a different technical support ticket 20 days ago on December 19, and other than the automatic response bot, nobody in CS has even acknowledged it. I have so many open tickets...

Maybe it depends on how easy it is to investigate the problem.  I opened a ticket the other day about a bad UV (simple issue),  got a respons within two days requesting more info which I gave and which clearly showed the problem, then I got another reply two days later that they had confirmed the problem and put it on the fix list.

I would agree with this. I put in a tech support ticket about an error message this afternoon, and it was fixed complete with product update within two hours.

I got the first human response to my ticket on February 2nd, over a month after I submitted it. They reproduced the error. There has been no fix, however. The ticket is still open.

I have pretty quick responses, except for the last one which affects an issue with one PAs HDR products in the past two Betas. It registered with the computer though. One problem is getting address on about each week or two, trying to get my release version of Das Studio to work again on the Mac Book Pro. I do have the Beta working on it so it is not a killer issue. I actually prefer that version. Except not being able to use that PA's products now. But they have fixed a number of issues I reported fairly quick, and one that took a long time finally closed.

Okay, I played with the dress a bit - I'm really bad at dForce, mind blush. So I just did very basic simulations, no timeline, no chair, but just letting V9 fall into various sitting poses on the ground. Judging from this, I think that you do have to fiddle with the dress quite a bit, and that it does have some problems, but it's not a total fail or absolutely terrible to work with. I had to apply a smoothing modifier first and set resolution to high, because otherwise there's just too much poke through. I don't understand why the PA did not set it up like this in the first place, but that's easily fixed. I set the gravity to 2 and air resistance to 1, to make it fold more like a thicker fabric. That worked, in a way, but there seems to be something wrong with the hem area of the skirt, because it just won't settle down properly, although I gave it plenty time for this. The folds just keep sort of standing up a bit, as if the hem had been dragged through glue and then hardened (weird picture, I know). This is a bit annoying, but might absolutely be due to my inexperience or wrong settings or doing without a timeline.

I'm not getting any of this truly terrible crumpling and tearing. Am attaching a render (very quick) and a pic of the area that keeps sticking up.

These images do not look bad at all tsroemi. I will try doing that also, adjusting the gravity and resistance. It is such a lovely dress I would hate that it could only be use with standing poses.

Thank you for posting this! :)

No prob laugh, I'll maybe also try with some of the presets from this collection: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-master-cloth-simulation-presets. People seem to be getting good results with it, maybe you want to look at it, too.

I use this A LOT and then tweak settings from there. I really enjoy using those presets as a starting point.

damned near impossible to animate without spikes and crumpling

tried it by itself no smoothing too, G9 arms up out of the way, just as bad

That one also seems  to  have some extreme issues. I am not  good with animations and  this dforce does take some getting used to. I guess standing poses with arms down to  the  sides

is the best pose to use with this dress.

I found that the dress has several welded pleats at the bottom hem that prevents the pleats from opening and probably causes all sorts of dForce issues for anything other than standing up straight.

I took the dress into Blender and edited it to get rid of those welded edges. I also deleted the leg bones of the dress, because the bcs (aka JCM) files provided for the product did not handle bending both legs to sit, etc. The modified version drapes much better. BUT A USER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO ALL THAT. I will not be running back to purchase from that PA again any time soon.

I have not attempted to animate it.

Unfortunately, since my modification is derived from the original, I can't share it, and I had to do all that work to benefit just one person (me).

I spent 3 days on this garment with Dforce with endless advice from people on Facebook before I looked at forum references in DAZ-Deals on Opera on my older PC

because I wanted to see how others had fared

... and found this thread cheeky

  • digitelldigitell Posts: 577

Totally understand barbult :) I dont think I would have the patience to go thru all you did.

Wendy, glad you finally found this thread and now you know you are not alone!

You know what they say..Misery loves company! LOL! :)

    edited March 2023

I made a G9 clone for G8F and autofitted it to the Ogre character cheeky

so far 250 frames in it's simulating nicely

the whole outfit at once (the underskirt and sleeves were fine on G9 too)

Wow Wendy that is very impressive. I would love to see it when you have it done. That Orge character is awesome! :)

I see, so this is why the hem stuck up like it did for me! Thanks from me, too, for finding that out. I'll maybe try to delete some of those welds with the Geometry Editor next time the dress gives me trouble. It's good to know. You're absolutely right though, one shouldn't have to re-work products to make them usuable.

I think one of the main reasons it sticks up is the dress's inappropriate handling of the case when both legs bend. I didn't know how to create appropriate JCMs (and a user shouldn't have to!), so I deleted the leg bones from the dress and let dForce handle it. I generally use an animated simulation with this dress.

Your results look very natural I think, so for any bendy poses I'll be sure to get rid of those leg bones too. I really wish someone at DAZ would read threads like this and just drop the creator a line or two ...

The dress works perfectly! Beautiful!  But is it my computer not working well or is her head shaking really oddly? I love that orge character!

Thank you for posting this Wendy! :)

Can you PM the PA and see if they can update it?  Hell maybe just update it with your fix.
