Some of the HD morphs in the Genesis 8 Female Head Morphs package stopped working

Hello All,

I had noticed, recently, that my HD morphs that are in the Genesis 8 Female Head morphs package, had stopped working.   I don't know if this issue just started or, more than likely, it stemmed from the problem that I had in August when I had inadvertently deleted an important file as Daz was storing stuff, where it shouldn't have been.  Anyway, I managed to fix most of those issues, but I had noticed that my older characters seemed "younger" than they supposed to be.   (Yes, I did check to see that the SubD was at level 3 or higher).  So I started to play with the forehead wrinkle morph and the crows feet morphs for the face and noticed that they didn't have any effect.   I had uninstalled the Gen 8 Female Head Morph package and reinstalled it, and the problem still persists.  So then I checked the log file and found something interesting:

So, low and behold, the log file told me I wasn't imagining things.  For entries in regards to the aforementioned "Forehead Wrinkle HD" morphs, and the "Crowsfeet HD" morphs, I got a "Could not open HD file" error.   But upon further examination, I could see that ALL of the HD files that I used in this particular character weren't loading up.

Now this only seems to be a problm with the Genesis 8 Female Head Morph package.  Other HD morphs that came with other characters or packages seem to be working fine.

Any ideas of how I can go about fixing this?

Thanks,

Geo

Yes, I had mentioned that I have done that already.  I am still using the DIM.  I am thinking that this might be a "leftover" issue, from when I had deleted that folder in which Daz store d some vital information.   While I have managed to fix many of the affected characters, I was wondering why some HD detail morphs didn't seem to be working anymore.  I had traced nearly all the bad morphs to the Genesis 8 Female Head Morph package, and verified this through the log.   So once I figured this out, I reinstalled the package, but to no avail. The problem still persists.   As far as I can tell, Genesis 8 Female Head Morphs is the only one affected.  Other packages and those HD morphs that came with store bought figures still work fine.

    thanks

    Geo

Are you logging into Daz Studio?

If so, then try to search for "Genesis 8 Female Head Moephs" in smart content > products and see which tab it showes up in.

  • Are there .dhdm files in  \data\daz 3d\genesis 8\female\morphs\daz 3d\head\ files in the content directory to which the product is installed? If you have more than one active content directory are there matching files and folders in any of the others?

    Hello Sir Richard

I had checked the path you referenced above and verified the parent directory to where the files are installed and they are there.   In addition, with you pointing me to that folder, I had also discovered that the files were used recently (last night).  So it looks like Daz is pointing to the correct directory.   When I did my reinstall, it was pointing to the right directory.   So I am not sure what is going on.

At first I thought it might just be the older characters that I 'rescued', but when I load up a fresh Genesis 8 female base character, it too is affected by the HD head morphs not working.

In Daz Studio, when I move an affected control, it seems like it is trying to do something, but when I ram it up to 100%, the end result is nothing.

since I have the same package for Genesis 3 Female, I tried the controls there and they are working fine.   So it does seem like the problem is isolated to Genesis 8 female HD head morphs as other other Genesis 8

female morph packages are working.  Also within that package the non HD morphs seem to be working.

Could there me some kind of master HD file with that package that might be corrupt or not there and that could be preventing the HD morphs from working?  I don't get it, the files ARE there, but yet the log file says that Daz cant find them.

I hope we can find a solution to this soon because it is drastically affecting my characters that are supposed to look older.   In fact, it was when I compared some older renders (before my mishap) to the newer ones, I noticed that the newer renders of the same character had less facial detail and the older characters look far too young.  So that is what prompted me to investigate what was going on.

Also, as a heads up, I have to change hard drives, yet again, especially now with the release of Genesis 9.

    Thank you,

    Geo

  • Are you trying to render (or increasing the Viewport divisions to match the render values)? The effects can be quite subtle with a lot of the HD morphs.

I am aware of the subD  settings and have both set to 3, but there is a problem otherwise I wouldn't be getting the error message in the log.  So something is broken somewhere.

  • Sorry, I'd forgotten the error. I just checked my log, in case I was being optimistic saying the morphs worked, and don't hae the error message. I am not at all sure what the issue might be.

I don't get it either.  It seems as if the correct directory is being accessed (on the I: drive) as the updated dates verify this.  The files for the HD morphs are in the correct place too.  So I don't know why it is failing to load the files.   I could see them being corrupted, but wouldn't the reinstall fix that?

I can also understand if I had problems with the older characters I created, but this is happening with a new fresh Genesis 8 Female character too.  In fact I tried it again today.  I had set the subD on both the view port and actual render to 3.  Again, it seems like it is trying to do something, but the morph doesn't show.   Again, I copied the last part of the log file when I moved the Forehead Wrinkle HD morph control and the Crows Feet HD morph control:

As you see, I get the error message again.  But reading those messages above again, Daz doesn't say it is having problems finding the file, it has problems opening it.  Looking closer again, each entry for the Forehead Wrinkle and the Crows Feet, it mentions QFSFileEngine::open: No file name specified.   Could this QFS File Engine be at fault?

    Thanks,

    Geo

I also don't have mesages relating to QFS (which I would guess is Qt File System or Service, the file-handling code in the Qt framework used to build DS).

Try uninstalling the morphs, then go to \data\daz 3d\genesis 8\female\morphs\daz 3d\head\ in each content directory and make sure they really are gone, then reinstall.

Yes, upon uninstalling, the entire head directory disappears.   I then reinstalled it.

I had discovered something intersting with one of my characters.   The Crows Feet morph works on her, but only one side of her face.  The other side, the control has no effect.  She has Forehead Wrinkle set as well, but that also has no effect.   What is even more interesting is that when I loaded the character later on today, the Crows Feet HD setting that was working, switched sides!   It was initially on the right side of her face, but now it is on the left.

So, something weird is going on here.

    Thanks,

    Geo

No.  I am still running on version 4.15 and the last time I did an update, it was for a newer version and it blasted my Measure Metrics.

  • I was meaning the content rather than the application.

Measure Metrics, like the other Daz-brnaded plug-ins, will always be downloaded in a version that is compatible only with the current DS version.

Oh, no there is no updates for the Genesis 8 Female Head Morphs.

Hi Richard, can I ask what causes the  "QEventDispatcherWin32::unregisterTimer: invalid argument" Warning? Or are there various causes? I recently got the "duplicate files found"  when trying to load a gen 8 model so I went scavenger hunting through my log file and that was one of the first warnings I saw. Any advice?

  • No idea - is this the 32 or 64 bit version of the application? What happens if you use http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/plugins/plugins_load_config/start to load only the Daz plug-ins and check after restarting? If that removes the error then you coule reeanble the plug-ins through Help>About Installed Plugins until you find the culprit.

Hello All, I have been finding that my issue is not just limited to the Genesis 8 Female Head Morphs.  I had noticed that Alexandra's HD morphs have stopped working as well.
