Frustrated by the Content Library (AGAIN)

My CMS only shows some things in Smart Content.  A lot of new stuff is missing.

For example, Aiko 6 is smart content, yet the DUF shows up with a yellow-bordered box with yellow triangle like this:  --->  !

A re-import of metadata did not fix the problem.  Aiko 6 is only one of many...DS 4.8.0.59 also cannot find critical pieces-parts such as Genesis 2 Female, Victoria 6, and many many more.

Half of the products in my library are installed to...

P:/Animation Library/

....and the other half referencing....

P:/Animation Library/My DAZ 3D Library/

The former is wrong.  The latter is the correct and intended library, but now I seem to have a mess of nested folders; half at the higher (wrong) level, and the other half at the lower (correct) level.  I tried to use DIM to uninstall stuff, but it can't see the products that are not in the "active" diectory path and so it would omit uninstalling the half of my library that it can't see.

I need help.  I've kept all of my download packages in DIM so no re-download should be needed.  I'm willing to completely blast away both folder structures above and re-install all content.  I'm even willing to completely purge DS 4.8.0.59 and reinstall it too if that will help.  I'm not worried about losing any special categorizations or shortcuts, and I have backups in case I lose any renders or works in progress.

What is the best way to do a complete reset on my library so that I can get out of this half-n-half situation?

From the Content Library pane options menu > Content DB Maintenance > Reset Database

If the products were installed with DIM it can uninstall them even if that path is no longer one you're using in DIM -- DIM's manifestfiles folder stores where it installed the items.

  • Oh excellent.

    Reset done.  Uninstall running now.

Then I'll make sure DIM points to the right place before I reinstall.

Should I rename/delete all those messed up directories before I reinstall?

Rename or back up what's left in the data folders, at least, and make sure you set DS to look in the correct locations.

  • Hello.

I did a rename; then installed basic stuff such as Genesis Female, Genesis 2 Female, Genesis 3 female, then a few ladies that use those, (V5, V6, V7, Girl 6, Eva 7, etc); then I tested them for proper behavior.

    Much better.

I am installing everything else now.  But my content library is 90 GB+ and that partition is over 50% in use, so I will run out of freespace soon.  I'll need to delete that bad folder structure to make room.  It's okay, I'll check my backups to make sure I have one out there.

Now I guess I need a crash course on categorizing my stuff.  I never really did that properly before, and now that I'm starting fresh, what the hell; why not?

You could have a look at this tut by AdamR on YouTube, it should get you started.

  • That's awesome, thank you!

I watched it once already and am planning to do so again to step myself through the process.
