Geomoetry editor visibility function

I'm finding that I'm using the geometry editor visibility function more often for situations like hiding hair under a hat or getting rid of poke through on clothing. The issue that I'm having is that when I use something like 3D Universe's outstanding (one of the most useful utilities I've ever found) show and hide toolbar sets, all those polygons that I've just made invisible become visible again. I'm wondering if there's a setting that I'm unaware of which would allow me to freeze these invisible selections so that I can show and hide a figure without having those polygons become visible again?

Assign them to a group, use the Joint Editor to add a bonme, and make that bone's selection group the one you made for the polygons to be hidden. The Geometry Editor visibility options do not stick between sessions
