Pairing a 2080ti with a 1080ti Pros and Cons

Okay, I know there are way newer cards out there but I'm broke and on a budget. Here are my system specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x

Memory: DDR4 3200 48GB

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080TI 11GB

SSD: WD Black SN750 1TB and 2TB

From what I understand, if you have two graphics cards with different VRAM amounts, Iray will default to the one card with the most VRAM if the scene exceeds the amount of available memory on the smallest card. For this reason, I don't want to get a card with less than 11GB of Vram as I'm already having trouble staying within that limitation.

I'm on a tight budget so I'm looking to either a second card like mine or maybe the 2080TI to pair with it. I figured I could really cut down times with a card with ray tracing. Would I see enough of a performance difference in getting a 2080ti instead of another 1080ti to pair with what I have? I can get a 1080ti for $250 vs $350 for the 2080ti.
