Greetings! A little render help

Hello everyone, I've been a dabler in Daz Stuido for some time now. I've just recently started to take a crack at really learning to use this program effectively and its been one heck of a ride. I've seen so many amazing renders on these forums and - frankly, it blows my mind.

There is something that I'm really confused about though and I'm hoping those of you more experienced users could point me in the right direction. I've seen the hyper-real renders where at a glace you could mistake the figure for being real. I've attempted this and with decent success. However, I'm wanting to go a different route.

I'm looking to make renders that appear digitally painted? I guess that is the correct way to say that. I'm not going for the hyper-realism in my art style. Can you do that with iray? or would I need 3Delight? I have Reality 4, could that work?

Anyway, nice to meet you all. I hope to post more here and get to know some of you. Also, thanks in advance for any help you can give. If you need me to explain anything better please ask - I will do my best!

Cheers,

Lotharen

A good example would be these products from Trisste-Stock at Deviantart:

The second one is closer to the actual look I'm going for. Realistic but looks digital painted to me.

By far the easiest way, would be to do it in postwork.   You could try looking for shaders to apply to the surfaces to see if you can get close to what you want, but it would be a great deal of work.

Thanks JimmyC, I'll need to figure that out. I'm a fair hand at Photoshop but not good enough to figure something like this out on my own. That's my problem with Daz Studio, I try to find out what those dials and settings do in iray and I'm just flabber gasted. For instance I have a V4 render I'm working on, for the life of me I cannot get her lips or skin to shine - I don't want them plastic but I want there to be a gloss and nothing I seem to adjust makes them appear shiney. They textures still appear flat.

The most easy way to give your image a painted look is maybe the free Fotosketcher: http://www.fotosketcher.com/

If you're going for a more painterly effect,  using the 3Delight renderer in DAZStudio rather than the iray renderer might help.  Easy to switch in the render settings tab
