Iray Preview Infinite Load

This doesn't always happen. It seems to show up randomly.

I made a simple scene with 1 character, 1 environment prop (a city road and buildings), and and HDRI skydome. I also tried it with Sun and Sky only. No dice. It blows my mind.

How is this happening? Any guesses?

    do you have Iray decals in scene?

    If an iray decal is parented to an instance, this will happen all the time.

    Not to my knowledge, at least not for the character. She renders just fine without the setting. I wonder if certain environment scenes come with decals baked in? And if so, are some products just busted?
