I've had it crash studio occasionally, or suspect it is visual menues, but can't be certain, or consistently reproduce the errors.

  • Have it on 2 different PCs - win7 vs win10.  Never had this issue.

Suggest, first make a different shortcut key and see if that works. May be a conflict with OS or other software?

I did try a couple, isn there a way to open the menu without a shortcut key though?

    (1) add VM as custom script wherever you want (right click VM script and find custom action to start)

    (2) Under DS custom (F3), find the toolbar you like, and drag custom VM icon to toolbar.  Now you can also access from toolbar without shortcut.

VM can be unresponsive if the progress bar (that appears in the lower right) is moving - like when you have a smoothing modifier applied. It will also hang DS if you press a VM button a second time before the window from the first press opens. At that point, you just have to restart.

Can honestly say have never had this. And use VM all the time for years, and very long sessions.  Almost sounds like VM performance may be linked to each users software environment.

And I have always tons of ram. eg. 3090 with 128 ram.  So maybe something goes to OS mem caching when PC has less ram?  Just one option to explain this apparently varying phenomena by user.

    thanks,

opening VM from scripts or library brings up the dashboard but still cant open up the shortcut menu i made from there by double clicking on it, seems the only way is to use shortcut key but it will freeze the program no matter which key command i set

never ever had that issue.  shortcut menu should at least appear, even if it doesn't work.
sounds really like something in your software environment is conflicting.

should add: am using still last DS 4.16.*.
not sure which DS version you have?  if not 4.16, maybe through beta or reg you still have access to that saved version to check?
is alway possible DS had a tiny code change in newer 4.20.* or 4.21.*.

I think it may cause my keyboard to freeze.

VM is generally activated through the hotkeys you setup.  If it conflicts with DAZ hotkeys or windows - maybe can freeze?  Also the language setting of your OS is key to. My win10Pro likes once in a while to auto-switch to British English from US English and then geom-editor no longer works, nor do some of my VM hotkeys that use a certain key.

So between language and not conflicting with existing hotkeys is important. Would recco that first test your planned hotkey by just using with DS open and see if anything happens.  If not then add to VM.  Also double-check your keyboard lanaguage.  DS is designed for American English - this includes how Right-Alt is recognized or not.
