Will A Product For Michael 5 Work For Michael 6?
I'm aware this is an obviously silly noob question, but I'm just getting started and I honestly don't know the answer. :)
When I am purchasing things at the DAZ Shop such as a character morph or hair or clothing, it will say "required products" and then list something such as Michael 4, or Aiko 5, etc.
If I own Michael 6 and Aiko 6, will the products that require Michael 4 or Aiko 5 work, or do I actually have to go back and purchase all the previous editions?
I really appreciate any answer, I'm completely new at this. Thanks, guys!

It depends on the items. Clothes for Michael 5, or any other Genesis character, will AutoFit to Genesis 2 Male/Mchael 6 with varyinmg degrees of success. Clothes for fourth generation figure characters, such as Michael 4, can be AutoFit to Genesis and then that can be AutoFit to G2M (or you can get clone shapes for the older figures for G2M). Textures for Michael 5 will not, for the most part, use the Michael 5 UV set and so won't work immediately with Genesis 2 male but again you can get an add-on that will allow the use of the more common Michael 4 UVs on G2M. Morphs won't work without a converter, GenX 2. Poses will work to a point but some things - especially feet and hands - will need adjusting.
It depends. The answer is sort of "no" but not completely. Accessories are designed for a specific generation of figures, and therefore typically would not fit a different generation of figures. So definitely don't go shopping for M4 clothing and expect it to fit on M6. BUT, there are a variety of workarounds that may allow some things to be used with more or less success depending on the item.
For example, you can buy a variety of Generation X products that will attempt to convert some things like clothing, morphs, etc. from an earlier generation to fit on the newer generations via autofit. The keyword here is "try", there are many cases where it won't work, or will cause problems in one area of the clothing where it MAY be possible to work around it like keeping that part hidden from the camera. The figure you are going to and from as well as the item being converted affects the results greatly, best to do a lot of research here before leaping in. For example you basically can't use V4 dresses on G1 because of distortion (although there MIGHT be some kind of complicated workaround, I'm a little hazy here), generation 4 shoes are pretty much useless on Generation 1 because of crinkly toes, V4 tops often (but not always) stick to the undersides of G1's breasts (there are a few products to help with this though) and therefore works much better for tight fitting clothing but badly for loose fitting clothing, etc. M4 to G1 clothing works a bit better, although not guaranteed. I don't use G2, but I'm under the impression that G1 to G2 might be a closer fit? verify that though.
There are products you can purchase to transfer morphs between generations, but I'm unclear on exactly when this will/won't work as of yet, I need to play with that more.
However, you can actually use generation 4 materials on the Genesis 1 generation figures, although you may have to change one parameter to select the correct UV (very easy.) I think I had problems with slightly visible seams on one single item, and everything else has worked great for me so far.
Items like hair might not be designed for the figure, but are often fairly easy to manually position and resize the X,Y,Z dimentions a little to get them to fit, although you might have issues with extreme closeups, certain hair around the ears, and maybe really long hair on the shoulders. Similarly, a giant tophat could probably be kludged onto any figure.

Wow, this is a little more complicated than I assumed! I'll do my best to make sure I'm getting products that are compatible with each other.
Thank you very much for your replies, Richard, sriesch and ilseturnbull. Now what to keep in mind when I make purchases from the store.
The compatibility matrix is an especially helpful link. I really appreciate your answers! :)
