NEWB Lights

I was getting irritated for quality using default lights and a face view of Valeria. It seemed pixelated or the render not finishing. I added distant light with a very low intensity and it largely resolved the issue.

The apparent analogy is a camera set to auto ISO. Low light raises the ISO which make the picture look pixelated at high ISO settings?

There's no auto-adjustment (unless you use the exposure meter control that appears when the preview is set to Iray mode). You need to raise ISO or FStop, or lower the value for shutter speed, in the Tone Mapping section of Render Settings for interior shots.

Changing the ISO in a camera will reduce image quality because higher-speed films produce lower-res images.  But that is NOT the case with Iray. If you ask for a 700x500 image, you get a 700x500 image, no pixelation, regardless of the ISO you use. Iray does not mimic this limitation in camera film speed, as far as I know.
