"its limits" "see it", I'm a bit lost with the subject in your sentences. But let's say "it" always refers to the camera right ?

Camera is part of the scene group. You hide the group : you hide the camera.

In both your screenshots, the active viewport is the camera. You can't see a camera's limits while "inside" this camera. I Don't see how this would be useful in any way.

Although I'm not sure of what you want, what you could do to see a camera's frame while using it in the main viewport :

    - Take the Camera Quai out of the group (in Scene Tab, click and drag it out of the group).

    - Select that camera and duplicate it : Edit > Duplicate > Duplicate Node Hierarchies. You now have a Camera Quai (2)

    - Because both share the same space, you'll see the duplicate's limits of Camera Quai (2) while using Camera Quai.

    - Now from the Scene Tab, drag and drop the duplicate onto the original to link Camera Quai (2) to Camera Quai.

    - This way, when Camera Quai is used in the Viewport, and Camera Quai (2) is selected in the Scene Tab, you can move around in the viewport using the View Controls and you'll be able to move Camera Quai while seeing the frame from its child duplicate.

This explanation sounds dumb as I don't really understand what you want to achieve there. Hope that somehow it answers your question ?

When I toggle on/off perspective view, the frame stays on. So there must be something else.

Maybe try to create a new camera, and see if that behaves the same way.

The best translator ever created by mankind is Deepl, and since it's an AI, it learns constantly. I don't know which one you use, but you should go for Deepl ;)
