Autumn 2022 - what are "snake skin" textures and brushes in Hexagon

I was looking through an old HDD just now and I noticed some "snake skin" stuff in Hexagon.  What's that for, I wonder.

    Skin_Snake is just one of the default textures that can be used with the Paint/Brush tools in Hexagon. (3d Painting).

    I guess I'm completely out of the loop on this one - painting in Hexagon. sad
