D/S workspace and videocards

I'm looking at trying to improve the D/S workspace performance. I currently have a 256bit video card with 1GB. When trying to work with something like http://www.daz3d.com/the-lost-world, it loads barebones and movement isn't too bad. When I enable the plants, it turns into a slideshow. I have read previous questions about recommended cards. The answers mostly talked about more memory on the video card (from what I remember). With D/S 4.8 and Iray things have changed for rendering, but what about the workspace? Does the Memory Bus width come into play at all? Example, would there be more benefit from a 384bit card with 3GB or a 256bit card with 4GB?

A lot of thoughts going through my head, so hopefully this makes sense.

Lost World is a memory intensive set.  When you load the "Create Lost World" preset, you'll see this message:

"Welcome to th Lost World.  Vegetation is hidden in order to speed up the interface during posing.  You may toggle its visibility anytime using the 'toggle vegetation' command."

I have a 4GB video card and I have the same issues when the plants are visible.

The attached image shows the message box and the location of the 'toggle vegetation' preset.

Yeah, I saw the messages when I load it. Does it turn into a slideshow when you load the plants? Have you noticed any advantage to having a card with more memory?

The preset just toggles the plant's visibility setting on the scene tab allowing free movement with the camera.  I have 32GB computer memory and 4GB on the video card and with the plants visible it behaves like what you are experiencing when loading the full set.  The product does come options to load parts of the set with plants allowing me to move the camera around painlessly.

Ok, so I think it's safe to say that set is intensive for most systems. What has your experience been with other stuff? I have 16GB ram and the 1GB video. I can load a couple of figures and a few other things before things start slowing down. Are you able to do more with a 4GB card?

Also, I'm guessing the bitrate of the card does not make a difference since noone has responded.

Video card memory isn't an issue unless you have a Nvidia video card, and you've enable it when Iray rendering, where the scene of models and textures needs to be loaded into the video card's memory before Iray rendering.  If the scene exceeds the video card's memory limit, Iray will run in CPU mode only, even if you have GPU checked in the Iray Render Settings, Advanced Tab.

What may be more helpful for you is to list your computer specs (cpu, system memory, hard drive capacities, OS and if 64/32 bit, video card model) and describe the issues you're having.  There are many users here would would give you suggestions to upgrade your computer to improve those issues.

Edit:  There are products here at DAZ that are resource intensive, even on a well equipped computer.  I can have performance issues with Lost World, Ultimo Paradiso and scenes constructed of Forest products/scenes constructed of Tropical products by Andrey Pestryakov.

Not really having any issue. Like I said originally, I'm not worried about the render side. When I've seen questions brought up about GPU usage, they always talk about the GPU being used for the D/S workspace. Just thought getting a video card with more memory would help while setting up large or detailed scenes.
