Saving morphed characters?

gilraengilraen Posts: 73

Hi all.

Does anyone know if there is a way to save a morphed character as a new character, one that I can move from Daz to Poser? I have a couple that I have created that I am afraid that I wouldn't be able to recreate if I had to try and redo them in Poser. One is the first thing I did when I got started, and by sheer luck, he turned out perfect, and I don't want to lose him and I would really like to try and start using my Poser Pro 2014 with the characters I already have. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thankssmiley

The way to do it in DAZ Studio is to use File > Save As > Character preset, and that can save the Shape settings and the Material Settings.   I take it that you are referring to a Genesis figure or Genesis 2 Figure?

You can also save in DAZ Studio as a Scene Subset, which is what I would do for use in DS, and I can then save the clothing, hair and everything else as well.   I don't use Poser, and the latest I have is Poser 10, so I can't check if Scene Subset works for Poser as well, but I'm sue somoen will know if you hang on.

To get Genesis into Poser requires the DSON importer (free) do you already have that installed?

Actually One is a Genesis 2, but the one I am most concerned with saving, is a Michael 4. I tried to save it that way a couple of times, but it tells me I have to transfer it to a something or other weight mapped something... Sorry, I can't remember right off the top of my head what it's called, and It's not in the scene I am presently working on to try it again and figure out what the term was.

Michael 4 can be used in Poser directly without any importer, it is rigged in the older Parameteric rigging system (like Poser used to use as well), and you would need to use File > Save As > Deprecated > Character Preset to generate a DS file.   For Poser, I think you could save your character based on Michael 4 directly as a Poser CR2 file from File > Export, and that should work.   You could give that a try.

Ok... I have him as a CR2 file, now where exactly do I put him? It wont let me just put the file in the runtime or anything like that, it wants to take it all the way down to the bottom file in the list, so there are several ways I can go, and don't know enough about this stuff to know the proper place to put him.

I am not sure what you mean exactly, but since it is a CR2 (Figure) file, it will need to be saved into a Poser Runtime folder in the runtime/libraries/character folder where Poser will look for it.   Is that the problem you are having?

I filled in all the details of the paths in the Export option, but it still saved to my Desktop, where I elected to put it in the first dialogue.

Ok, I will try and see if I can do that, so far no matter which direction I approach it from, they never meet up. I tried to import it into Poser, but Poser is looking for a .3ds file while the Daz file is a dsa. And I have no idea what I am doing here. LOL

OK... Got as far as making a folder for the character in the People file, but My computer keeps telling me that I don't have permission to save there (or in Characters), it keeps asking me if I want to save it in the pictures file instead. What do I need to do to get it to allow me to save the file? I am the administrator, it's a one user computer.

Oh, and the file I am trying to save to "Characters" or "People" is a CR2...

Or to be clear, trying to save it as a CR2...

It has to be saved in a Poser-format folder, you can't save it in People or Characters as those are DS-format folders.

Ok... so how do I do that exactly?

    Save it somewhere under Runtime:Libraries:Character

That is what I was trying to do, But my program won't allow me to do it.

    Program or operating system?

What operating system are you using and where is your main Runtime (or the one you are trying to save to) located?

I am using windows 8.1 I believe it is... My main runtime for Daz is in ThisPC\Users\Public\Documents\Daz3D\Studio\MyLibrary\Runtime. For Poser it is C:\Program Files\Smith Micro\Poser Pro 2014\Runtime

Windows 7/8/Vista protect the Program Files hierarchy, so you shouldn't put content there.  You should be able to save to a folder under ThisPC\Users\Public\Documents\Daz3D\Studio\MyLibrary\Runtime\Libraries\Character.

As what type of file? and will I need to convert it to something else for Poser to be able to use it?

    That's for saving as a cr2
