I read a guideline of making cloth:
What does "Hold edges with extra loops if necessary" mean?

and what does "Add cloth thickness to mesh, but do not include the backside faces." mean?
If we add thickness, in blender we called solidify. There will backside faces. A face has always two sides.

  • If you want sharp edges in a SubD model one method is to add extra edges (a gentle bevel) to stop the algorithm from smoothing the shape there. Another option is to select the edges with the Geometry Editor and apply edge weight via the right-click menu.

You want to do something to avoid having a raw edge to things (like a really thin pievce of paper), but you don't want to just have an offset version of the entire geometry . Mada has a good video guide to this that she has posted several times.
