Face Controls not rigging

I have watched several tutorials on using the Genesis 8.1 face controls, but I am unable to get them to work.  I select the model, and then I add the face controls.  But any movements to the face control have no affect on the model.

I can reproduce this very easily.  I just add the genesis 8.1 basic female to the scene and select it, and then add the face controls.  And now I have a bunch of symbols overlayed on the face that do absolutely nothing.

I am runing the latest version, on a Mac.
