Beast from 20,000 Fathoms/DAZ Dragon 3 morph

edited June 2015 in Art Studio

At first I didn't know if this should be "Product Suggestions". I got this pretty much the shape I want, but I can't do the spiny ridges because I have zero 3D modeling skills. My tweaking skills are decent. It's a Ray Harryhausen "Rhedosaurus". Maybe someone here remembers what that was.

Oh yes indeed, and your morph is really close. I actually still have one of the large B&W posters of the Rhedosaurus that used to be sold commercially a few decades back, as well as copies of both of the movies in which the Rhedosaurus made an appearance. I was also fortunate enough to meet Mr. Harryhausen before he passed on to the land beyond, beyond, as his work had a profound effect on my life.

Ray Harryhausen told me the Rhedosaurus was gray because it was a black and white movie. (That was my big question) I met him at a convention. In color my rhedosaurus stands out from the buildings better if he's green as in some of the posters. In the picture I put up where he's gray, the hind legs are very not right yet. Still dragon legs. They are the proper length in all the "green" pictures.

I think the Planet Of The Dinosaurs version was a brownish grey in direct tribute to the original, but most of the official Marquette and models that Harryhausen authorized that I've seen have been a duller green with brown submarkings. And, of course, it should be noted that the Rhedosaurus seems to change appearance a few times in the film... not surprsiing as it was it a build-up model rather than a foam cast like Harryhausen's later models, so every time it had to be repaired, it had to be partially skinned and put back together. As a result it seems (to my eye anyway) to be noticeably wider and have thicker limbs in some of the city shots.
