What is that?
I also have been getting artifacts with semi transparent areas. Especially in this product. When I submitted it, I was a bug.

Which product are you using? could you give us a larger view. If it uses the normal iray settings, I think you could work with cutout opacity to make it 100% (or 0%) Then you would need to add oldschool backlighting to create any kind of glow. The product above has a custom shader so I don't know how to access cutout opacity. Maybe yours is a standard Iray shader.
Will you let us know what find?
Solved. It was a prop designed for a different figure than I am using. When auto parented to my figure it distorted the prop as the camera moved closer it gave out this odd artifact when rendered! Cheers
