Bon Bon hair by Goldtassel has an emissive setting to it?

Had Bon Bon hair on a genesis 8.1 character, turned off all lights, and I mean everything.  Characters head and shoulders were still lit up. Searched for twenty minutes until I looked under Bon Bon hair surfaces and found that it had an emissive setting. Is this something that's done to make hair shine? 

Just now loaded same character, all new, and put Bon Bon hair on her, the Bon Bon hair still has an emissive setting but it doesn't light up character's head when I turn off lights. Very weird. I've never seen this before. Any thoughts?

Several of goldtassel's hairs have emission, I assume to try to give it extra life in studio shots but it can look weird (depending on Tone mapping) in more natural situations. There was much discussion of this at the time, mostly in the Members Only forum.
