Rigged simple strap figure and added general weights but joint rotations resetting (Daz Studio)

Hi,

I'm having a rigging problem illustrated in the two attached screenshots. I'm trying to create a simple rigged strap with 16 joints. I performed the following steps:

1. Created a cube primitive with 16 divisions
2. Changed the X, Y and Z scale to make it a thin strap
3. Created face groups for each of the 16 joints
4. Exported as an obj file
5. Imported the obj file
6. Used Figure Setup to turn the 16 selection groups into bones and arrange them in a heirarchy from the root bone to the end bone
7. Added general weight maps to each joint

Now when I click on a joint and move the rotation slider, I see the joints actually bending, but as soon as I release the slider, the joint snaps back to rotation 0 in the preview window. The selection outline showing which bone is selected is still rotated and the rotation parameter remains changed, but the figure itself resets to zero rotation.

Can anyone help me? What am I doing wrong?
