cutout oppacity not quite working on geoshell-nvm im stupid

I have never done this before but I decided I wanted to make a geoshell for these stars on this chest:
originally they were just white but i got the idea to apply a metal shader to the body part of the geoshell and then put the stars as the oppacity map
it looks fine in preview when it renders the entire chest renders metal and not just those small parts
how can i fix this?
here is the oppacity map...sort of.
you can't really see it on its own because it's completely white, because i was originally gonna try using the white stars and making them glow but I guess I can't do that with a geoshell. so here's a screenshot with the skin behind it
