cannot delete scenes from "unassinged" panel in "smart content"

Although I have deleted the files of these scenes from my PC, they still appear in the unassigned category. how can I clear them from my studio? (Daz 4.7)
They appear in the lower left hand portion of the attachment.

Smart Content isn't a view of the files stored on your computer, it's a filtered and sorted view of a database of links pointing to the files stored on your computer. Deleting the actual files doesn't affect the matching database entries, they'll stay there until you delete them as well.
Easiest fix; switch to the Content Library tab (this doesn't work in the Smart Content tab) and click on the Options button (top right corner of the tab, with a little triangle and four horizontal lines). Select "Content DB Maintenance" about halfway down the menu, tick on the box for "Remove Orphaned File References", and Accept. This might take a little while to finish if you have a lot of content, it's searching and editing a large database.
Spotted Kitty, thanks for replying.
I've tried the steps you outlined, but the windows are still there. I deleted all the files of the unwanted scenes from my PC, and even emptied the bin. When I select the DB maintenance and click 'remove orphaned files', the DB maintenance box disappears, without performing any action.
I am using studio 4.7 could the process be different?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Have you tried highlighting the icons and pressing Delete?

Repeatedly!
I'm starting to think there is a ghost in the machine!
Go to the Content Library and open the Categories -> Default -> Unassigned. There, look for the files you want to delete. Right-click the icon, from the context menu select "Remove Reference". This should remove the unwanted entries in Smart Content.
Freaking finally! Thank you stefan! I have been looking everywhere for this information.
Thank you, Stephan! My "Unassigned" section was filled with junk, now it only has what I want in it!
You saved me from posting a repeat thread!
