noob renders

Hi everyone,

i'm a total noob at 3D Art but I've been having lots of fun with learning it since installing the software about a month ago, the tutorial video's are informative and reading through the forums is most helpful.

The stuff I've seen posted here from members is jaw dropping amazing and full of imagination, you guys/gals are very inspiring.

I would like to share some of the renders I've done and had fun with... helpful tips are most appreciated.

These first attempts are more my introduction to 'getting to know' my software, the terms and tools such as shaders (which I found has no relationship to the sunglasses I wear) tweaking character posing (which looks cool from one angle and silly from another), lighting (which I have no idea of placement), the fun of messing things up and having to start all over again because I didn't save anything upon exiting the program, you know, all that nice hands on stuff, really makes learning something new all that more exciting.

    You're doing quite well. Given the nature of the subject matter...play with banking the camera to get some more dynamic views.

    Messing with shaders, spotlights and colors...

    Model: Vianne for G2 Females
    Basic Body MAT & Hair (Hikari Hair)
    Clothing: String Bikini Top & Bottom
    Pose: Mix and match...

    Platform Prop: Wood Topper (Base Camp Vol 1,2 & 3)
    Used various tweaks on the shader to achieve the effect I wanted including adjustments on the tiling.

    Shaders by Wild Designs: Stone shader 08 Red and 03 Green, the blue color is my Aurora background image loaded via the Diffuse setting.

    Tiling Settings:
    Horizontal Tiling: - 0.38
    Horizontal Offset: - 0.64
    Vertical Tiling: 0.82
    Vertical Offset: 0.50

    Lighting: Iray Default Setting... didn't touch a thing... well not yet anyway.
    FX: Simple Godrays, adjustments and tweaks here and there... & SYSG Cone Rays (Y Rotate 63.59)

    Environment Background: Aurora (Part of my HUD Theme for Windows 7).

    Hi guys,

    I had a spare 6 hours today so I thought I'd do some testing on the camera's DOF option and tossed together a basic scene in DAZ3D 4.8 Beta, though not too heavy in content or detail, but something that will give me a clearer understanding of DAZ3D and how much of my PC's resources it actually gobbles up when implicating the software's optional extras.

    So using the iray engine, messing with the DOF setting which I've learned can have a huge impact on render times depending on the variables like scene, prop detail, prop amount used in the scene and so on, and lets not to forget the overall PC specs.

    I opted not to add any extra lights in my scene but utilize the default iray environmental settings, no sky domes... preferring to use a background picture of a sky, it seems more friendly to work with I think, and most renders came out the opposite of what I was aiming for when rendering with a sky dome.

    Scene 'Waiting in Vain' rendered at 2560x1440 res.

    Due to the limited file size upload restriction, each image will be posted separately.

    Note: iTunes, VS-20 Guitar Studio, JDownloader 2 running in the background during all renders.

    Photoreal devises: CPU and x2 980 GPU's

    The first render, the DOF is focused solely on the female with the surroundings blurred out.

    The successful render time for this setting was 1hr 32mins... this was the third attempt, for the first one DAZ3D was stuck on 35% only 30 mins into the render then exited itself for no apparent reason after presenting me with a hazy window... the second was the same but stuck on 100% for 20 mins... too weird... also used a fair amount of PC resources, made my mouse jerky but still usable... it also put a decent load on my GPU's...

    The second... the DOF was more opened, covering the area from the front of the female to the far corner of the rear wall, only the props to the front of the scene and on the outer side of the wall were slightly blurred out.

    Render time 38mins. first pass successful, easy on the PC resources but still a tiny bit of lag noticeable with my mouse... GPU load similar to the characteristics when rendering with 3Delight... hardware and resource friendly.

    The third... no DOF used, render time 1hr 58mins, amount of system resources used was shocking, major lag, second 46inch monitor flickering now and then... iTunes music skipping and behaving weird... heavy load on both CPU and GPU's. Not friendly at all.

    So, strangely enough, the second successful render seems to be the friendly play nice with my PC one, probably due to the amount of DOF blur the iray engine has to deal with in the scene with the first and third putting the most strain on my system at a mere 2560x1440 res.

    I'll probably look around the board and see if there's someone with the same PC specs as mine and compare settings.

    Reflections are pretty easy now, it's the lighting and the shadows I seem to be always fiddling with... just can't get the hang of this light thing... lights are my nemesis...

    This second version of 'the mirror chicky' I was trying to light the room using a Photometric Point Light shining through the window in the hope to create shadows... it worked but I ended up having to use a soft spotlight towards her head just to see her face in the mirror.

    Hi guys,

    I've been having fun with iray and lux render a little more but have found them both painfully slow to render with settings 1080p and above, one lux render took a whopping 5hrs and that's only with a simple character, however, I do like the quality of the results though.

    I seem to fiddle endlessly with the settings, especially the lighting which actually takes up most of the creation process.

    The first two renders 'Female in Shiny Pants' and 'Female in Red Boots' both done with iray.

    Whilst searching the forums hoping to find some kind of speed setting, I stumbled across a thread discussion about a plugin called Octane for DAZ3D, so being the ever curious kind, I downloaded the stand alone trial, and gave it a test run...

    WOW!!, it surely fits the title, it is ridiculously fast at rendering 2K, 4K and my monitors 3440p x 1440p resolution, I was so impressed, I bought a license for the full version.

    Coupled with a ton of optional settings, I'm particularly impressed with the Geo-map and the real time light settings, very cool... anyway, I re-done some old renders just for a play around with Octane's lighting environment.

    Let the fun continue...

    If you meant the 09 April 2015 posts of Vianne (the muscle model) then yes, I am looking at doing more of her and the others too... it's just finding the time to do it between my work schedule.
