Setting up 'resource light' interface for DS4.7 ?

Hi all,
I followed the user guide for 'preferences/interface' set-up but I'm wondering if there is a suggested interface set-up that is very resource light?
I'd like to create populated scenes for comics and wanted to be able to pose and do test renders without bogging down memory.
I have an AMD phenom 64 bit with 4 cores, 8 gigs of RAM with Windows 7... running DS4.7 Pro 64 bit
After I get a character textured and fully costumed... then do a couple renders, DS4 starts having trouble displaying smart content thumbnails and will be unable to show parameter sliders. It happens more with Genesis 2 characters who're probably higher res?
I tried lowering the quality of my test renders... that still could be it - dunno. But, wondering if certain interface settings would help.
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions
