without technical terms, what is dynamic clothing

What is dynamic clothing? If possible assume I know zero technical jargon or terms. In very basic concepts, what does it do that is different from non-dynamic clothing? Why do people want to use it instead of non-dynamic clothing? Are there any basic, brief, introductory layman's tutorials on dynamic clothing?

Thank you very much in advance for any tips.

In simplest terms...dynamic clothing is a clothing model that moves like real cloth.

In other words, it flows and follows the pose of your model like real clothing. It gets wrinkles, like real cloth. It flutters in the breeze.

There are 3 basic types of clothing:

    1) "prop" clothing -- this kind of clothing is a single object that is attached to one bone of a figure, like a hat that attaches to the head, or a pauldron that attaches to one shoulder. It may have morphs that change it in various ways, but it doesn't respond to changes in the figure's pose other than to stick to that one body part.

    2) "conforming" clothing -- this type of clothing has multiple body parts that match corresponding body parts on the figure and bend along with the figure, like a shirt. If you raise the figure's arm, the shirt sleeve moves with it, even though the chest of the shirt stays still with the chest of the figure

    3) "dynamic" clothing reacts to physical forces and other objects, like gravity, wind, and collisions with the figure wearing it or the floor. A conforming pair of pants sticks to the legs, but a dynamic skirt can be blown upward by a wind from beneath of pulled down by gravity, and can puddle around the figure's feet when it hits the floor. Dynamic clothing is good for things like capes and skirts that don't stick to specific body parts, and can have realistic wrinkles and draping caused by physics, rather than being modeled into the item. The disadvantage of dynamic cloth is that it takes a lot more computing power to calculate how it falls.

mjc1016 and fixmypcmike, thank you, both exactly what I needed.

fixmypcmike, your moniker makes me think I might ask you the following:

I've been trying to download the Install Manager, so I can then download DS Pro. The download of the Install Manager keeps failing.

Here's one message I got while a download was continuing:

"Unable to load recent personalized data. Cart contents, product ownership and account information may be incorrect."

Also, the download name seems to be

    DAZ3DIM_1.1.0.28_Win32.(exe)

-- but my laptop is 64 bit. Do you have any idea why the download of the Install Manager is failing?

It sounds like it's losing your login status -- try logging out and back in again. If you're using a script or ad blocker you may need to allow daz3d.com

It's only 32-bit, it doesn't handle enough data to need to be 64-bit, but will work fine on 64-bit computers.

This time I managed to download 26 MB of the Installer, but when I go to where it is stored on my computer, and double click on it, I get this message from my computer:

"Installer payload initialization failed. This is likely due to an incomplete or corrupt downloaded file."

Will logging out and back in help that?

update: hmm download failed again -- this time 26.5 MB -- in the column where the type of file is shown, this is a PART file.

This time, when i doubleclick on the file where it is stored in my computer, nothing pops up about an incomplete or corrupted file. Windows says "to open this file, Windows needs to know which program you want to use to open it" etc.

Not sure what to do next to fix this...I did log out and back in...
