Worthless Installer

edited December 1969 in New Users

I did exactly what the installer said.
The Install Manager says it installed the apps.

The only thing it installed was the Install Manager in 2 places Applications>DAZ 3D and a few Genesis2 Male/Female files in Users>shared>DAZ 3D>InstallManager>

It put an icon in the dock, but the app is missing (noted by a "?" in the icon).
A search of my hard drive reveals nothing.

In short, it looks like it downloaded and it believes it installed it, but it didn't.

BTW: NOTHING should go into the "Shared" folder. It's NOT for apps to share, it's for users to share.

This would be 1000 times easier if it just downloaded a single zip file and I do it my damn self.

Right click on any of the Installed items in the Installed pane in DIM.

Then select 'Show Installed Files' that will show what has been installed and to where.

DIM by default installs content to C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library. That path needs to be entered in Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager as both DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats

I do see the "My DAZ 3D Library" in the Users folder (still a terrible place to be on a Mac).

RIght clicking on the file in Install manager claims the app should be in /DAZ 3D/ (see shot 5 attached). There are only 2 locations on my computer with the name "DAZ 3D", one in Applications and one in Users.

Once again, as seen in shot 2 above, the only thing in DAZ 3D is a folder labeled "DAZ3DIM1" with the "Install Manager" inside of it, that's it, zip, zero, nothing, nada, and "DAZSTUDIO4" is nowhere on my computer.

Click on the cog icon to open the preferences then define the download location in the Downloads tab, the content location (or locations as you can multiples just be sure "Show Details" is checked in the Ready To Install tab) and the app install locations for 32 bit and 64 bit in the Installation tab. To install some plug-ins you will need to point DIM to the installed apps in the Applications tab.

That screenshot shows that indeed the files aren't there -- they are in black italics, whereas if the files were actually there they would be non-italic hyperlinks to the files.

I'm guessing that there is some kind of permissions issue, but I'm not a Mac user, so I'll point this thread out to someone who knows Macs.

The Shared folder in your Users Library is used by various companies including Pixologic/ZBrush. I have never seen any problem with it on my Macs.

The list you are showing is the "Show Package Files", the other is "Show Installed Files". The latter will link to the precise location of where the file is stored. Your list shows the folder structure in your Application folder and you find it as shown in my image. Do you see this in your application folder and can you start the program from there?

If you were to do "Show Package Files" on your Essentials, it would show you the folder structure within your User folder for My DAZ3D Library. Do you show such a folder in your User folder?

It really is much better to use DIM since this then can keep track of what you have and where when you need to find it, and also allows DAZ to notify you of updates when you review DIM (which I do every few days).

    Hello,
-Which user where you installing from and is that user allowed to sudo to install? When installing software, DIM will ask for an authentication using the standard authentication dialog.

    - Can you provide a screenshot of the directory destinations setup in DIM? Click the Cog, and click on the Installation Tab.

    - Can you provide a screen shot of the applications Tab too? Same window.
