Anyone else seeing greatly-extended render times with Tesla Abandoned House ?

I really like the small, elegant interior environment in the Tesla Abandoned House.   The muted colors are great for portraiture - the product promo picture is below.

Something in a recent DAZ Studio release seems to have a real problem rendering in that set.  I don't use that set every week and didn't track the last time I had a normal render time with it, but in the past couple of days, I've had to abandon (heh) renders that would normally have completed in a reasonable time.   I'm using the Public Build v4.161.6 and doing iRay renders with an RTX2080ti + RTX2080.

I'm not looking for help from the tech support folks, really.  I'd just like to know if any other users out there that might have the Abandoned House product have seen their render times go through the roof with a recent DAZ Studio release.

I have tried the following to try to see if I could detect a problematic element in the product, itself:

- Looked at every surface, and changed any that were not Uber-shader types to the Uber shader using the DAZ tool

- Checked everything for emissive elements -- some converted surfaces originally had Ambient channels and the Uber tool converted these to emissive -- all set to  0,0,0 - black

- Set all glass surfaces to the DAZ glass shader, rather than gray plane with reduced opacity that the original surfaces had

This didn't change the render slowdown at all.   So, I removed every prop item in the room, just leaving the empty box with walls, ceiling, floor, etc.

After all that, it's still ridiculously slow.   By the way, my lighting is simply an HDRI (Barcelona Rooftops, if you're familiar with it),  along with an emissive panel with one division used in the interior as fill.  That's it.

Something seems to have changed in DAZ Studio that causes it to choke on this one environment.  Weird, huh ?

I'd love to hear anyone else's experience with this product and a currrent release of DS.

Thanks,

Olo

  • I doubt it would help but maybe look in the Help -> Troubleshooting -> View Log File?

  • Thanks, @deepsix, but I checked the log with every test render as I tried to figure this out.  The only thing that really stood out was a log file entry indicating - even in the empty room - a single object with about 4 million triangles.   4 million sounds like a lot, but maybe it's normal.  The log file entry with the triangle count was about 6 million when all the props are in the room, when loaded as default.

I don't recall seeing this statistic being reported in the log when I was reviewing DS logs for another problem a few months ago.  Maybe it's a new statistic that's being reported, or maybe I just ignored it, before.

I'll try it again later today and post the relevant chunk of log where the scene and statistics are listed.

  • 4 million sounds llike a lot to me - the scene I have currently open is 2 x Genesis 8.1 males at "High Res" (subd level 1) and the Classic  Deco room. This is 519k triangles according to the log.
