Dforce Inquiry - Non Urgent

I've seen this in other people's renders, and I don't know the right terminology for it or how to properly approah the desired look. BUT! You knwo what it looks like when someone looks under the covers, when they pick clothes up off the floor, when they're tugging thier clothes in a certain direction, etc. I'm trying to figure how I would go about makign the clothes/fabrics look like someone is picking it up.

I've experimented with other Dforce ideas before, and sort of got the look that I'm describing here - The clothin item gets "stuck" on a part of their body and won't leave till the end when I remove the prop altogether.

When I find some references for this, I'll post them here. Also,  I looked online and didn't find a concise update for that post, thus I decidded to come here first.

    I think you want this:

I own it but I've never used it, because sculpting morphs in Blender is easier than fiddling with dForce.

  • Thanks for letting me know about this, I had no idea it existed and I need this so bad. Thanks!

  • The effect of a dForce magnet can be achieved by pinning the garmet through a non-simulating object.

One way of doing the 'picking clothing up off the floor is to do the following:

    1. Have a plane at floor level with a sensible number of facets - each facet not much more than twice the clothing facet size, maybe a bit less than the clothing facet size.
    2. Take a piece of clothing and put it at a representative angle above the plane, so no part touches the ground plane.
    3. If the clothing is not dForced already, apply a dynamic dForce modifier to it.
    4. Put a cylinder primitive (about 1cm diameter) through the clothing at the point your character is picking it up.
    5. Create an animation so the cylinder moves downwards to allow the correct amount of crumple on the bottom of the clothing in 30 frames or so.
    6. Start a dForce animation and watch it like a hawk. A lot of non-dForce clothing will explode, but you may be able to save an OK simulation of you're attentive. What does & doesn't explode is pure luck. One garment I found didn't explode was the 'Short Shorts' freebie on Rendo: https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/79654/short-shorts-for-g8f
    7. Repeat until you're happy with the result.
    8. Then dance a jig.

Not really hard, just a lot of trial & error. Pinning the clothing with a cylinder & not fingers will make the dForce animation run faster because of fewer calculations needed.

    Regards,

    Richard
